Worth it to remove ABS? SJM kit?
Worth it to remove ABS? SJM kit? As you can see from my profile pic that I have an empty engine bay. Thinking about all the things I can do while the engine is getting an overhaul I figure ridding myself of the ABS. So I've been looking at the SJM kits:

Anyone regret deleting the ABS? Anyone use the kit? Easy to do?

My cars ABS **** the bed like two weeks after buying it in 2004. It was probably sensor related but I didnt fix it. Here in Idaho we get plenty of snow and crappy weather and I never had a problem.
FWIW, I am installing the SJM kit right now. It is extrmely straight forward other than double flaring can be a pain.

I installed the SJM kit a few weeks ago and only used about half of the lines and fittings they sent. If I could do it over again, I'd definitely just piece it all together myself.
FWIW my ABS went stupid recently. I pulled the module and the bottom cover and found a gear had fallen off. I nut backed off and there went the gear. Replaced the gear, loctited the nut as well as the two other nuts for two other gears and it works flawless. Should have been loctited from the factory.
I would not pull ABS unless its a dedicated strip car and that is for the weight savings alone.

i pulled it because I don't drive the car as much anymore and didn't want to deal with trying to fix it. I used the SJM kit, the SJM kit is engineered well, but you could create it yourself. The flaring took forever! there has to be an easier way to flare this stuff.
Also, I pulled it so I can work on the engine easier. The pedal feels a lot better. I figure with my 12bolt in back, C5 brakes up front, the ABS module wasn't designed with this stuff in mind, so figured I'd just as well take it out. YMMV>

I also removed mine for ease of working on the engine, along with the fact that my ABS didn't work any more with the addition of the Ford 9".

If it's a street driven car i'd say keep it for sure. IMO that "little extra" you get from deleting it isn't worth the streetability you'd give up. It's not like it's hidnering you from going fast.
Exactly! I don't know how you other guys drive but in 5 years I was never able to lock up the tires even under har braking. Needless to say that piece of junk is long gone and I couldn't be happier.
