Default Car shutting off problem

The past few weeks I have been having a problem with my car shutting off as soon as I start it. It doesnt do it every time but it seems like its been doing it more often now, I threw the scanner on the car and at first it picked up no codes, then after turning off the car and starting it a few times it picked up a DTC 16. I erased it to see if it was intermittent and the code has not come back on. I do have a MSD billet unit and it seems to run fine once the car is started.

I tried messing with the harness connection to see if it was a poor connection and it sill does it. The fuel pressure is good and I made sure VATS was disabled in the tune. Any other ideas on what could be making the car shut down?

update: So now the car only starts and stays running on the second try. The first try the car will start then shut off right away, then the second try the car starts and stays on. Still no codes have popped up. Im stumped?!

I had this problem and a new computer was the remedy.

I see that you did a fuel pressure test. Does it instantly jump to 41-47psi and hold pressure on the first turn of the key?

Yea first key it was ~43 psi and held pressure there. I wanna believe its the opti since it threw that DTC 16 but it only did it once and hasnt done it since. I really dont wanna buy a nice new expensive opti only to find out it was something else haha

I got frustrated with mine and took it to a shop. My thoughts as well as the shops was the VATS, but no matter what we did it would still shut off. The mechanic did a couple tests and said it had a low voltage readout in a couple places. When the new computer was installed the problem has happened since.

The likelihood of a bad PCM is almost none. How much did this "new PCM" run you?

the PCM was $130. I understand that PCMs aren't likely to go "bad", but the mechanic I took it to diagnosed that as the problem after going through everything else. It also seemed to work since my car has been starting ever since.

Have you had a chance to test the coil and check the ICM?
