that slipped my mind too. what 40 weight are you running? keep in mind you are in florida and you are still at 20 psi at idle, thats perfectly fine.

.....but my comment was based on your previous post suggesting that the OP go with 40 weight oil!

My worry is at brand new oil and operating temp its reading 20 psi. Thing is I have to do a road trip of 230miles, 2200-2400 rpms for 3hrs one way. I want the oil to hold up with this issue. I think I need to go to 20w50.

The point to my post was to find out what oil was thicker since my lifter bore has an issue. This isn't about if I should use 20w50 or 40 due to cold starts. Again in FL its hot, hotter, hot and cool so oil temps rise quickly. This is just to keep the engine going until I build my 383. This isn't a daily.

What makes you think a little 230 mile trip at 2200-2400 rpm's is going to break down the oil?

OP you could use conventional 10W 40 and it would hold up to a road trip. There is absolutely no need for a 50 weight. 20 psi is perfectly acceptable especially considering you are in florida. You have no need to go to 20W 50 and it might cause more harm to your engine.

Guys I never said I was doing 50, also the 230miles is one way. I do have to come back...also I'll have a 100 or so miles driving around in the city. I'm not looking for hp on this trip. It's actually to get my qtrs painted by my buddy.

I've got the 10w40 in there now, I may get there and psi is good. I'll bring the 20w50 just in case I want to drop it.

Thanks for all the replies. Here is the LT1.

I give up. Apparently oil breaks down under normal driving conditions and all those manufactures commending 15k oil change intervals are going to be in for a surprise with warranty claims.

Never ran any kind of oil treatment. Had a lifter noise, adjusted valves, (LT4) drove 40 miles, lifter started ticking again. Changed the oil ( Mobil 1 syn ) & added a quart of Lucas oil treatment. Problem solved. 300 miles, no noise, oil pres up 5 lbs.

They're hoping that by the time the engine craps out, it will be out of warranty, as well as falling into some "fine print" exclusion in the extended warranty document...
