is an electric water pump worth it
i put down 362whp and 374wtq on a dyno tune with a stock water pump will i see a big difference with an electric pump if so which pump is my best bet

power gains for me were negligible but if you want your car really cool on hot days in heavy traffic or in between runs at the track there is no better investment. i absolutely love my meziere pump. over 4 years and it is still so quiet i have to pop the hood to know its on. i had a CSR and like my meziere better cause it was quieter.

EWPs bring with them lots of benefits, including the increased HP (6-10 is not uncommon, dyno-proven), the ability to run a double roller timing chain, and running the pump while the engine is off (useful for cooling in the staging lanes, etc.). Some people question their reliability to be used on a daily driver, but from what I've seen those failures are few and far between. Additionally, if you incorporate a 'warning light' system, you have absolutely nothing to worry about.
I have been using a CSI(R) pump for the past 6 years and it's still kicking. My temps have never gotten above 185, even in the heat of the summer at the track.

ram air do you daily drive your car i mean i dont drive mine every day prob like 2 to 3 times a week just to go out and stomp around and end up with tickets 6 years is a long time

I used to DD it all the time, then took a couple year break, then have been driving it pretty regularly for the past year and a half. If anything it's a testament to it's longevity in terms of time AND mileage. I would not hesitate to use an EWP on a daily driver.

My double roller, chain and sprockets, almost weighs a pound less than the stock LT1 timing chain assembly. Plus I'm taking away the drag on the cam from the water pump. And also, I know this is just something little, but if you bend a stock timing chain to a well made double roller the chain on the double roller just moves so much more freely, less friction. And at 6000+ rpm, the lack of parasitic drag starts to add up on the dyno.
Less friction, less rotating mass, less drag, plus the fact that electric water pumps have become so reliable even on a daily driver, it becomes a no brainer.

This is key (along with a proper relay installation), because an electrical failure can happen without warning. No pump running and no attention to the gauges can result in a blown head gasket. It has happend to many. Their fault, yes, but you have a lot of distractions in a daily driver or times where it is impossible to pull over safely. Not trying to snuff out the EWP love-fest, just putting more info out there for consideration.

Yes, it'll free up some power and eliminate that crazy gear drive and opening in the timing chain cover. It worked very well for me on the street.
I still have on a shelf a HD Meziere pump mounted on a relativly new Corvette pump body (no oil cooler return tube). It has a new motor brush set.
Any reasonable offer gets it...

FWIW I have had EWP on for 11 years. After my car went out of warrenty in 99 I put a EWP after the dealer replaced many OEM ones under warrenty. DD then but not now....has 108k on it and not a problem.
as far as a "warning light"....those are only good if the driver pays attention to it, just like a gauge, IMHO.

They also say (or imply) that a mechanical pump will not fail instantly, you'll have enough time to pull over, etc. Well I can say that my mechanical pump went from working fine to blowing my head gasket instantly.

I Personally loved my EWP i noticed a snappier throttle response and cooler temps !
I bought mine from a fellow member by the name of "Fast" for $160 shipped quick!
he was great at offering as little information about it as possible and accel'd at responding in incomplete sentences .
It lasted almost 2 Whole months till it started melting its power wires and seized!
it made noise from the moment I professionally installed it using a relay in the stock relay box under the hood...
I then took it to a local electric motor repair shop only to find out that its wasted gheeee i wonder why he was selling it?

Word of advise....there is no need to remove the gear sticking out of the timing cover..leave it alone..just incase you have an emergency and have to throw a sock WP back on.
Take it from me, buy one with a warranty and enjoy!

I heard this was the reasoning that so many people are scared or do not advise running an EWP on a DD.

i pay attention to my gauges all the time, i didnt waste my time with a warning light.
The only complaint i have with my CSR is the supplied wiring. They give you a clip connector that is junk and caused my EWP to randomly shut off a couple times while i was driving. Get rid of the clip connector.
