Default lt1 vs SBC

Hi.
Well i will start off with that i got stock lt1 with turbo setup with pt88 pushing 7 psi
so i figure its time to build a motor and turn boost up to max. car is gonna be drag car with some weekend driving.
After looking around i started to lean towards SBC with CSU blow through carb due to price. You can build bulletproof SBC for 10k including carb and fuel system i am not sure i can do that with lt1 . what do u guys think? because if i stay with lt1 i will have to upgrade to standalone ecu bigger injectors thats added cost. plus with SBC set up there is no opti.
Let me know what you guys think
Thank you

Sounds like you have it figured out. Or you could just convert your lt1 to carb if you wanted to get away from the Opti and aftermarket ecu.

SBC heads are cheaper and all the bottom end stuff is off the shelf. Thats the best route to go. You could make it bulletproof and send it into the 8 second range for less than 10k for sure if you dont add the turbo kit in the price. Hell it could be done on nitrous haha.

well this is coming from a guy who looks at alot of combos..

if i was you..run the lt1,buy 23 degree heads pay the 400$ for the reverse flow cooling and run a carb setup..a lt1 is nothing more then a gen 1 motor with f/i,opti and reverse cooling..parts all swap over.

now i say to do the above for 2 reasons..
1st being you are going turbo the reverse cooling will help you from pushing the head gasket out between the 2 middle exh ports which you know are side by side..you could also tap into that area and run water there to..so now you can run a **** ton of boost an lean on her with out having to fear pushing the gaskets right there

2. the lt1 block is a bowtie block in it self pretty much..unless you want to run a 4.125 bore then stick with it.add splayed main caps to the middles and the front cap and she will take some power being prepped right.

any 23,18,15,13,12,11,10 degree head will work once u set them up for reverse cooling and make sure your valves aint to large.

an that pt88 will have you going low 8s in a 3400# car if setup proper..

can i run any sbc intake on an LT1? i have an sbc and dad is getting a car that has an LT1 with an LT1 carb intake and rear dizzy....... this is the intake it has http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NAL-24502592

but with 13:1 compression a 26X 27X @50 cam and AFR 210 heads i think the intake is holding it down...... can i put my vic jr on there and then run it on E85?

You can have the Vic-jr. converted to gen II heads, it's just paying for what you want that usually turns people off to it!

I see so can you just use an LT1 gasket as a guide and drill the new holes? or do the holes overlap.... who does this mod and what does it cost?

If you buy sbc heads and convert them there will be no need to covert a vic jr to work...

the heads are on the motor already. I think that the dual plane is going to hold back the motor VS going to a single plane.... I guess I could cut the divider down and throw on a spacer if need be.

This sounds like the best option to me. You already have the turbo kit setup for the LT1 and you already have the block. I would love to see this project as my dad and I are also looking into something similar for his 96 Firebird build.
