Question Bad gas mileage is it normal???

Now before anyone says the obvious I know it's a V8 and I'm not going to get the best gas mileage epically with my mods. But I wanted to know if what I am getting is around normal or below average. So far with all my mods in my signature my car get around 200 miles per tank of gas. I get a little better on all highway but not much. Is this normal? I recently changed the spark plugs, fuel filters, cleaned air filter, and changed O2 sensors. Is there anything else i could do or fix that could help me get better gas millage? BTW its and A4 and the car has about 128,000 miles on it. Any help would be great.
Thanks

3.90 gears aren't exactly going to help. But its a trade off.. Performance of 3.90's or gas mileage of 2.73's...

I get like 150 miles to a tank in city driving with a bit of stop and go. Cammed car's don't get good millage with that type of driving.

I get about 130 miles per tank. When I get to drive it, I run it hard! It does however get 18-20 mpg with a mail order tune (Its pretty rich). Dynotune is in order for the spring!

That mileage is hideous for a near stock car. If you do not have any SES codes and are driving normally then your gas mileage should be significantly better. I'd look into the tune and doing a compression test or leakdown. Why did you change out the O2's? Were you getting a code?

Gears do not necessitate less fuel mileage than stock. Just because an engine operates at a higher rpm does not mean it will use significantly more fuel. That is not was kills gas mileage. Load is what greatly effects gas mileage/efficiency (ie the honeymoon period of stomping on the gas after a gear install or running a higher stall torque converter). Just for "PROOF" sake, I've had a LPE heads/cam combination with 4.10 gears and would regularly get low 20's in the city and high 20's on the freeway when driving normally. Pretty much like stock.

I think were all doomed for crappy gas mileage with these cars lol
But I was hoping to get a little better gas mileage. I changed the O2's because the readings on freescan were all over place. But after I changed them I realized I left one of the injector connectors unplugged after I did the cam swap and that was causing the bad O2 reading and performance. SO I went from 150 miles per tank to 200 lol Anyone else have any ideas or experience with this??

When my car was stock with 3.42's, I think I remember getting 225 miles in the city. Now with H/C and 4.11's, I get 180 miles or so.

I while back I was getting around 150 miles to the tank and found that the tune was a bit rich and my cell 16 BLM's were severly split. When I fixed the split and got a new tune, the MPG's got better.

When I just had bolt-ons I got between 200-225 per tank. Now I don't even want to keep track of it

You guys are freakin nuts!

You all should be getting low to mid-teens IMO, which would equate to 15mpg.

I have a big *** cam and I still get ~15mpg...meaning 200+ miles per tank, and that's beating on it sometimes. You need to get a dyno-tune or a better tuner.

On my way to Atlanta, from Charlotte for G14, I got ~21/22mpg with my big cam and a break-in tune. I have 3.42s btw.

My car isn't too wild either and I only get just a little over 200 per tank, though I calculated about 15 mpg. I never get close to 200 before refueling after I learned that my gas gauge is not accurate and don't get good warning that I'm low other than the miles since last fillup (this lesson cost me a fuel pump due to running the car out of gas). I have 3.23 gears. I always thought I should probably get better but I think I'm stuck where I am. I really want 3.73's and a stall, but dont think that will hurt me too much.

What are your RPMs at 60mph? It could be either the stall or the gears killing you, or if the lockup isn't working that will kill your mpg also.

I'm pretty sure the lockup is working because I can feel it kick in. But at 60mph the car is right around 24-2500 rpm

I'll say this, my mostly stock 95 regularly gets 22mpg. That's mostly cruising, with very little stop and go. It drops to high teens in town, or if I get a wild hair up my ***.

"94 Camaro Z28 A4 with 3200 Stall, 3.90, Headers, Borla cat-back, cc503, 1.6rr, 52mm tb, 24#SVO Injectors, SLP CAI, Mad Z28 Tune, AIR! EGR! Hoosier DRs, Aluminum DS, Strut Bar, SFC, and all other bolt-ons and free mods you can think of!!!"

I dont see why you get bad gas milage, maybe you need more performance mods, id imagine with the ones you have you should see 35mpg. 3200 stall, 3.90's, a cam, bigger injectors to burn more fuel faster...wait...i think those hurt gas mileage (stating the obvious)

long as she runs, and runs well, i wouldnt ask for much more haha

I get around 18mpg in the city and 22mpg on the highway with my 3.23 A4. Averages out to around 280 miles to the tank full.

One thing I have found that really kills gas mileage is a low temp thermostat, unless you tune for it. Stall and gears aren't helping mileage any. Yes, gears will kill fuel economy contrary to other statements in this thread. These things come with "desert" gears for a reason.
