I agree about stock being junk. Mine with a signal converter is good enough for the time being tho. I own too many cars to have a good system in them all.

My truck is MB Quart components, Kenwood HU, and JL for subs and power. It rocks pretty hard.
Sounds like your truck system is setup nice...but you can't be serious about audio with line converters sending signals to your amp...that's like trying to put down 1000hp on spare tire donuts.

My setup...Alpine headunit...JL zr650csi up front and JL c5 series 6.5 cxi's in the rear. JL audio stealbox w/ 10w3v3 for sub. JL 500/5 for power. JL wiring and audio interconnects.

It's not 5,000 watts of power...but I didn't want to install a second battery and spend $$ on a high-amp alternator.

Best part...it all fits in factory locations and if you turn the dial up the sound only gets better.

It absolutely smokes any factory system. Again, it's not meant to be heard 4 miles away...but it absolutely impresses everybody because the only thing that looks different is the Head Unit.

Can't go wrong with JL Audio. I haven't touched the Monsoon system in my Trans Am, but I have installed JL stuff in previous cars and I don't have a bad thing to say about them.

Back when in 2005, which was probably the last time I gave a damn about car audio, everyone ran JL Audio, Image Dynamics, Rainbow Audio, Elemental Designs, Memphis, Xtant, Diamond Audio, Mmats, and Blaupunkt.

I know some of these brands have faded, but they were miles ahead of Bose or Monsoon in reference to sound quality.

I would never 'flame' for being brand loyal. Polk is good, if not, a great brand. I'm a huge JL audio fan (JL biased), but I would never take anything away from polk.

In the end, it depends on which part of the brand you are buying. Even JL audio offshores its productions for its entry level speakers e.g. w1v2 woofers are not made at the facility in FL, but w3v3, w6v2, w7, are all built in house.

But Polk, JL and others are sound quality brands...not like some of these other brands that are just output...but then again, some people want 160 db's of bass, but that's not me.

If you bought the cheapest polks you could find, they would be marginally better than the factory, but still an improvement...if you spent the coin on the better products, well then kudos to you and I bet you notice the difference.

The real matter is that if you replace the speakers, you replace the head unit and amps....the reason is that the 'bose' and 'monsoon' systems use DSP to accomplish pseudo-bass...basically, they embelish one frequency to make the appearance (sound) of output.

If you replace the speakers, but not the amps/head unit, your improved speakers will exploit this DSP (digital signal processing) and will likely sound worse than the stock speakers.

This is why 'line converters' don't work well for simply adding subs.

I was saying more along the lines of I never hear people using polk. Ive always been happy with them and their products. I'm more of a mid lvl component, single 12' sub guy, no $800 components for me haha

Really...I used to see a lot of polk audio down here in FL. The mid-level stuff is actually made by Polk, so its good stuff...a great value. But I guess the thing to have now is crappy audio, tons of video monitors, gaming systems in the car, etc...thanks 'fast and furious'...

Hi-fi stereo and sound quality is nearly dead...when was the last time anybody said 'listen to this' rather than 'look at this'...

Here is something to chew on...

Give a person a working radio when they have no entertainment otherwise...they will be perfectly content...

On the other hand...make somebody watch TV/movie with no sound...they will be like "what the hell" and will be upset...

My point is...audio is still more important that video...to me that is

I guess another point is...4 cyl honda: sound bad....8 cyl chevy: sound good...

Guess I'm just a dying breed

You must have missed the part where I said "good enough for now".

A signal converter isn't ideal but it worked to simply add subs to my stock system in the 99. I'm not trying to "put down 1000 HP" as you put it. If I had an aftermarket head unit the converter would be gone.

Truck H/U has 5V preamp outs...

I really hope when you guys say "stock sucks" that you are not comparing mid 90's speaker technology to modern speaker technology.

IMO, the 5 speaker bose system in my car freekin rocks. Considering it was engineered in 93-95 it is plenty loud and has great quality for what I need in my car. I specifically hunted for the original headunit for my car. Found one and have loved it ever since. Does it compare to the more modern Pioneer system in my Cobalt? No. In its day though it was great and IMO kills the monsoon system.

Sound system and looks are about the only thing us LT1 guys have over the LS1 cars.
