Finally installed the solid roller 383 yesterday.
I am finally starting to make some progress on getting my solid roller 383 up and running. I was able to get the engine/ trans installed yesterday but ran into some issues with my hedman 1 7/8" headers fitting. I think the AFR exhaust ports are raised which makes the 3.5" collector hit the bottom of the car on the driver's side..I also need to cut some more of my heater box away to make room on the passenger side....they are still a tight fit regardless. I hope I can heat them up and bend them collector down and out of the way...I only needs to come down ~.5-1" at most. I also need to decide on wether I want to get a single tb with an elbow or use a 4 bbl throttle body setup...I am still undecided but would like any opinions if anyone has them.
Thanks,
Matt

I have the same headers on one of my cars. Try this. Remove one of the bolts that hold the K-member in and goto napa, lowes, wherever you can find them and get 4 bolts that are 2 inches longer. Use the longer bolts to allow the engine to sit a little lower while you install the headers. Then tighten them up slowly untill the k member is back up into the correct position and reinstall the factory bolts. Mine was close like yours and after I ran the car at the track a few times the heating and cooling allowed them to flex a little bit to where they are perfect fit now. By the way I have the AFR 227 heads as well so that very well may be why we are running into problems. Another thing that I found helpfull is ditch the adapter plate that bolts to the head and get some of the 5/8 inch aluminum adapter plates and port them to fit instead that seems to help too although if you are trying to retain the heater box you will have to cut it back another 1/4 inch or so to make up for the adapter plates being thicker. And one last thing, Before you get the whole thing back together as soon as you get the drivers side header on make sure your steering shaft clears them. If you have a madman rack and steering shaft you will have to make a small dimple in one of the tubes to get it to clear. Just thought I would pass this along hope this helps and saves you some grief.

Thanks for the tip doughboy! I figured I was on my own on these headers as they are very few lt1 cars that would use them.
I appreciate all the comments.
Alex...A lot of money.....a whole lot. especially when you add in the cage, fuel system, FAST XFI, chassis components..etc. I am only doing an engine/exhaust swap this time around as the car is still the same as it was back in 2002 when I built the first 355 combo.

Is the collector hitting the brace under the floor? If so heat and beat the brace up, I notched mine. You want all the ground clearance you can get. Dont let the header drop down over the port by loosening the bolts to get floor clearance.
On the header tube that hits the A/C box I heated it at the bend and bent it over, gotta have it mounted to do that though.

Could you PM me more info on that pump setup? I've been kickin' around the idea.
I had to cut my heater box in half, when I installed my stepped Hedmans'. Then fabbed up a sheet of alum, and boxed it back in. Works just fine

Hey Matt, good to see your still progressing with that thing and she is still around!
Dont do a elbow, I should say elblow.
We have some very low profile stuff we use. If your spraying the thing, especially with a plate, screwing up the air distribution cyl to cyl will make life fun. Probably have a few TBs around here can try too, have a FAST one on my desk right now
