Default New class proposal for 2011 ltxshootout

I would think it would be cool to see a heads up for the not so fast not so financially well off guys for 2011. if you look at the world cup finals factory shootout class it seems to be set up pretty cool. pretty much just a bolt on only class with bolt ons and weight reduction allowed only. you could even make it one of those cruise 20 miles deals. i just think a bolt on only heads up class would be awesome and would make myself and others want to make it out to the 2011 shootout a lot more. this is just an idea, i know tony said it would be hard to tell if people had a cam or not but i think within this community the honesty policy will work just fine. tell me what you guys think of the idea especially the organizers of the event.

So basically you cant crack the intake manifold gaskets or timing cover. I love the idea, gives me somewhere to compete.

Meh, it is no different than any other class really. You could put a stock motor in my car (I already have all of the bolt-ons) and it would run in the 11's. I'm sure lots of guys have cars set up like mine too. Even with a stock motor, you'd still need a VERY light car to be competitive. The lightweight parts for our cars are not cheap. K-members, a-arms, drag brakes, kirkey seats, etc, etc. The class winner would still have thousands invested into his/her car.

Yes it would be a cheaper class to have fun in, but the winning car would be in the 11's with most of the field in the 12's and 13's.

There would have to be a minimum weight for a class like this.

i agree a minimum weight would be cool too. this is all up to the organizers. im just trying to get some sort of bolt on class into the shootout for us guys that arn't super fast to get to be able enjoy heads up racing for most of us the very first time.

you'd be surprised joelster. not always the fastest cars show up and their are only i believe 4 cars ever in the world to be in the 11's bolt on only. a 12 sec car/ low 13 sec car would be VERY competitive and would more then likely make the field

I would love to see a class like this for the slower cars but, I would have to agree with Tony it would be very difficult to tell if someone was running a small cam or ported heads. I know if someone with a very light full bolt on car ran a crazy number people would probably suspect cheating was involved then how would you prove it otherwise ? I'm not against it just don't know how cars would be teched.

I'm not sure maybe Justin or someone from the mag might be able to answer that.

The only way to do it right would be to have the winner and runner-up pull a cylinder head.

I second what Gizmo said. Also to make it fair the minimum weight would probably need to be 3300lbs to so to keep the low budget guys from bailing. I know if I had a bolt on car and there was going to be a bunch of 3200lb cars I wouldn't show up and try to run.

This class could be a lot of fun. But, it is by far the hardest class to enforce. You would have to think really hard about the rules. I would suggest that the IHRA Pure Stock rules would be a good place to start. The good thing is that you would only be dealing with one combination!

You would be surprised what people will do for a trophy!

This class would be very cool I would even volunteer to do the tech. It would have to be Sunday morning, because there is no way that I am missing Saturday nights activities!!
