Timing Chain possible broke?
Took the truck to the track today and I am pretty sure with no rev limiter, I over rev'ed the truck and on my second pass i got to the finish line and the truck shut off, tach went to 0. Well while coasting I tried to fire the motor back up and it fired up, but I heard a clunk or a knocking sound little a piece of metal clanking around. SO i quickly shut the truck off. While it was running, white smoke just came out quickly from my driver side of the hood. I shut it off, smoke went away. We did pull the driver side valve cover and nothing looked bad under there, everything seemed good rockers in the right place no play and nothing noticable there. I did check the oil, no discoloration or metal shavings either.
Well I got it towed back to the shop and the guy that works on the truck told me to fire it up, I tried and all it was doing was cranking, but not turning over and firing up. Well my buddy who was at the track and at the shop with me just text me and asked if while trying to start, if it cranking was faster than usual. And When I thought about it, it did cranking faster. He told me that a broken chain would make a noise like i heard before until it fell off its track, than it wouldnt start. A sign of a broken chain is the motor cranking faster but no start.
So what I am asking is, is this a possibility? If not, what could it be and if it is, what is a good timing chain that will withstand whatever I need it to do? Good thing is that its pretty much done for the year, so i dont need it done fast. I can wait, but this was just a shitty day to end the year.

Actually funny thing is, my buddy just told me to do that tomrorow when i go over his shop. Pull covers and crank it and see if the side components of the heads move if it doesnt , chain is broke.
And sorry im a n00b, still trying to learn so i am not sure of all the technical stuff.

well you see, i am not 100% sure it was shut off at the big end of the track, just when i got to where i had to start turning, i felt my steering really stiff which happens when its not running but key is on. so i fired it back up and thats when it did the clunking noise. Maybe it was barely on or holding on by a thread as they say, to fire back up and broke than? And if it was a broken chain, would that cause it to smoke as well ? He said, white smoke is oil issue.

Well didnt pull the covers off but we did check to see if therer was spark when cranking and there was absoluetly no spark at all. Replaced the ignition coil with a msd one and now it has spark going to the coil just not coming from the coil.

It should be very easy to determine whether or not the timing chain broke. Have you tried turning the crank by hand yet? It should spin very easily as you're not opening any valves.
Also, if the coil is firing, the optispark is turning (the PCM won't command the coil to fire without the low resolution pulse of the opti). What do you mean you have spark going to the coil and not coming from the coil?

Lets say it is the chain, whats the chance that the sprockets got messed up? I priced out the two sets offered from summit with the chains and sprockets and GM performance is 280ish and comp cams is 500ish. And is there only those two for these motors?

Yes it has a lt1 in it. And if that's the case, that found mess up the opti too?
