I drive about 15 miles a day and I see some of this sludge on my cap(no sludge on my dick...by the way) from not burning off the condensation. That does look excessive though. When mine kicked a gasket it was easy to tell because the white smoke covered cars behind me and when it sat the #7 cylinder filled with coolant. But to my surprise after taking it apart, the gasket did not look bad at all nor did the head. FYI my gasket was bad around the rear of the head/back of the motor around #7's water jacket. Good luck with the repair.

1SWT97Z, I was smoking out an intersection two nights ago. I'm sure the people behind me were amused.
Matt I am hoping to be back on the road around Tuesday. I'd like to get to PA before the weekend. We will see how tomorrow goes.
No takers for my Edelbrock STB???!!!! I'm really not going to re-install it, lets say $65 shipped???? Half price!

See? I'm unlucky, it is black.
Well the head gaskets are in up at Advanced Auto, strange they didn't call me.
Hopefully there is a lifetime warranty on those cheap OEM brand tools they sell, stupid fuel line disconnect tool!
I love how they work half the time. Some LT1 fuel lines come off the first shot for me but my car is in the be a pain in the *** camp.

TECH Fanatic
Mine were easy at the motor now since they've been off a few times. Although, when I changed out the teflon/plastic lines for Braided SS ones, that spot under the car where it hooks to the hard lines gave me hell since they had never been off.

Yeah, its been on the car a few years and could use some paint or powdercoat anyway. Young camaro, $55 shipped!! Let me know.
So I went and got a new fuel line tool, what do you know, they came right off. My old one was kinda bent and then cracked. What a POS.
Quit for the day. Have a header bolt that is trying to round off for some reason, its soaking in PB Blaster. Have the header off the driver side. Close and then a bullshit header bolt. I like how 11 out of 12 broke loose no problem...... Its stupid **** like this that makes my projects take forever!
Matt did you send those wires by any chance? I don't need them til probably Monday anyway but curious.

Half way point reached! As I figured, gasket is split on cyl. 7. Piston 7 almost looks like it just came out of the box. Kinda not impressed with the buildup on the other pistons, something tells me my old tune was too rich or something.
Well hopefully the guy is in town that checks heads, maybe start putting it back together today to. Supposed to be windy and rainy tomorrow, sunshine state my ***!
My neighbor is funny, he was like why not just check and replace the driver side? Yeah right not for the amount of work it takes to get the damn heads off am I going to do only one side!

I am doing both heads. Nope I'm short on time and money, supposed to be in PA sooner than later. I'd like to leave FL Wed. or Thurs. My brother graduates from York next week. Then the holidays of course.
So it feels like Dec. 2005 all over again for me though. That is when I popped #7 cyl. on the gasket on my original motor. Talk about deja vu or time travel. Except I'm a lot faster at working on this thing then I was then!

I should know in 2-3 hours if it will be test fire and drive day or not! If it checks out good around town I'll hit the road for PA tomorrow, the chassis will hit 200k on this trip. Hell the body is the only thing that will have lasted that long. The original motor probably would have also, but I wanted a little more pep in its step.
