Nothing wrong with doing that. Just make sure that you check the gasket thickness and use that number in your calculations.

I wouldn't do it. You might get away with it, but for the money do you really want to take the risk?

I've used old gaskets to check the ptv, I wouldn't use anything but a new head gasket, the chances of you getting the gasket to seal isn't really worth it. Besides if you get a coolant leak you will be out the cost of new head and intake gaskets not to mention the oil.

well i am suprised no one has brought up what kinda time it takes to do such a job once the motor is back in the car. Lets say you do reuse it, and it does not seal up right. youll ba jacked when you first start the car and there is a leak be it internally or externally. might as well replace it. be better off and safer. save you time and money. and you wont have bad dreams lol just think bout it. i am not sayin you cant reuse um the paper gaskets idk that seems iffy to me. just take the info that has been supported to you and go from there. let us know what you end up doing as well.

sorry to resurect this.. but i sort of have to do the same thing... except im getting new head gaskets...

my question is, i used brand new bolts... can i reuse those or do i have to toss them? i decided to take the heads back off and have them checked, since the engine blew the head gasket, dont want to risk that head being untrue.

they have only been on about 10 days on the stand, engine never ran.

I was thinking that would be a perfect reason to leave the old, you’ll never know for sure unless you try…

Re-hashing a 12 year-old thread is pretty close to a record.

Even for a spamming, one-post troll.
