LT1 iron heads flowed better than aluminum heads, what???

I simply wondered if the harder iron heads would be able to withstand more abuse.

If you have a problem with destroying aluminum heads because of the material then you have other problems

Just no. I will be surprised if it lasts half of the race. And why such a little stall? You should be around a 3200.

Don't forget to reinforce the passenger side floor board so it doesn't fall out and oh be careful with the welds on the intake manifold.....and then you should be good...

Why stop at a little 300 shot...i would go with a 2 stage 400 just add some octane booster from the local parts store....

The other benefit to the iron heads over aluminum is they make a little more power at the same compression ratio. The iron doesn't dissipate heat like aluminum, so it keeps more heat in the chamber, thus making slightly more power. In my opinion, I wouldn't take the small power advantage of iron over the weight advantage of aluminum, especially over the nose of the car.

Car Craft did several tests regarding that theory, and there was absolutely no difference between identically casted heads made of both metals. It's an interesting article that's for sure.

No kidding? I didn't catch that issue. I guess there would be a point of diminishing returns anyway once heat soak kicks in. So, only Smokey Yunick with his adiabatic engine would be the one to benefit from it...

EDIT:I just found that article, you are correct. And yes, pretty interesting too.

make sure ya hit the 300 shot off the line! its all bout a good 60'. maybe after a really good 60' you can roll to the finish after the motor melts

x2 cause if the floor board falls out then the aerodynamics are all fucked up

i wanna know what would be the best choice to go with on my lt1

I have a stock bottom end lt1 with 100+K miles on it and i need to put heads on it. i am gonna put a 300 shot of gas on.

Now i wanna know which heads would be better to run on this. the iron heads? or the aluminum heads?
i say aluminum......they will disappate heat quicker than the iron head and maybe reduce ur chance of detonation with that massive shot.......

Agreed ^

i like the th350 idea now ur thinking but idk about that shot the 200 you may get away with for a few passes but that bottom end sounds like its a used old lady with over 100K on the clock.......id be careful

The engine doesnt run on 'flow,' run the aluminum head. We have dozens of 1XXk mile heads/cam customers in the 380-420rwhp NA range still running without issues. The mileage isn't a problem unless you already have issues that need to be addressed, and the short blocks are more robust than people give them credit for. However, you will eventually lose a piston if you are actually trying to get into the 750-800hp range with it. Keep in mind, you should be able to manage 7.20's w/ 50-100hp worth of n2o in a well setup heads/cam car. At that level, it should last awhile.
