Not nearly as well as a 3200+ and a good set of drag radials, but that LS1 rear end will rocket you down the track!

You might see 2-3 tenths, not worth the swap IMO. I would never do less than a 3600.

I've had a 3k and a 3200. Both were to low even when stock.

stock is around 2000, so a 2400 wont do too much for you. 3400-3600 is the norm for most bolt on cars nowadays.

btw...
LS1 rear ends are the same as LT1 rear ends

The rear ends are still the same. Both cars had 2 and 3 series carriers it all depends on the original gear ratio from the factory and they make different gears for both carriers. There is no need to change the whole rear end to upgrade the gears you just need to know what you're looking for.

I wouldn't go through the trouble of changing it.

The smallest stall I would ever run is a 2800. But I have a 3500...

Stock 93-97 converter is 1650. 98-01 cars had 1800.

I looked it up recently trying to decide what to do with a 94 Formula. It has the factory GU2 2.73:1 2 series. I've gotten a couple of differing opinions on how far up to go on the stall. I was thinking grabbing a 3.73 for 2 series and a Yank 3200. One friend who worked under a couple legendary builders in this area (and whose opinion I respect 95% of the time) said it would be way too much with a 180cc head package and a 226/234 cam. He says 2500-2800, but I think he may not be up to date on LT1 specific torque curves and their specific responses to TCs above the 2500 range, especially with AI heads. He thinks I'm going to have to spin it to 2800RPM before it will move and it will run like a dog on the street. He says I'll be in the gas all the time. But that doesn't seem to jibe with what I've read from all the A4 guys here.

Sorry to thread jack...

My trans builder told me the same thing. Guess what? I still put in the 3500 stall and couldn't be happier... I guess their looking at it from a DD prospective...

I DD'd my 3200 for over a year. 3600 would be better for stock/bolt on. ALMOST every single person who's run one that low will say the same.

Ls1 and LT1 rear ends are just slightly different. The carriers are not the same; the lt1 uses the auburn with clutches and the ls1 uses a torsen with gears. The lt1 carrier wears out and ends up only spinning one tire, the ls1 will not wear out; but the ls1 carrier sometimes blows apart with too much power and good traction or high rpm launches with a m6. Over all I like the Ls1 carrier rear ends over the lt1s. I would not go lower than 2800 on the stall, and don't buy one of those cheap stalls.

K, well I hate to burst your bubble, but you can get any 93-02 fbody with 2 or 3 series rear end. 2.73's, 3.23's, or 3.42's

And you can buy a 3 series gear for a 2 series carrier as well. THA only real difference would be the auburn or eaton posi unit...

3200 should be the smallest size ever considered.
