Would you really go after your builder if an engine your racing broke?? Ya become best buds with him then **** him when something fails. Sounds like a great Idea. I know people at all the shops Im talking to and have talked to the machinists themselves. This isnt going to some hack shop or back yard build. Speedinc, AES, Legend and Clayton are the only places Im looking at and none of them would do a hack job. Truthfully Im not worried one bit about it.

And there are those who'd rather establish a good relationship with a builder who can be trusted to know what parts would go with your ideas, build it while keeping you in the loop and getting involved where need be. That way if there is a problem, take it back to the builder to see what happened. That way if there were any agreements towards a guarantee then you aren't out as much money. Just sayin'...
I've been working with Patterson Racing on my new build, and this above descibes my relationship with them to a tee. They have been awesome so far. Just ordered pistons and rods for mine through them earlier today. Looks like 392 ci for me

Having a good relationship needs to start somewhere. This is like a basic refresh and adding splayed caps. Not sure what there is to go wrong and everyone says its a simple job. Do you guys really think one of these shops would do a shitty job? I dont they are are forum sponsors and have a rep to uphold.
After talking with Speedinc's machinist last night theres a good chance Ill take it there, just waiting on the total. I got a great relationship with them. **** Ive prob spent damn near 15k there in the last couple yrs.

Being a sponsor on here means nothing. I would pick whoever the fast guys use and whoever has the best reputation. And there is definitely power to be had in the shortblocks so it's not something I would skimp out on. Keep in mind you are mostly paying for the machinework and good machinework will demand a premium.

Ya all the shops I mentioned are the BEST in the area and all of them have flying cars from the top fuel cars to mild street cars.
The shop that originally did the boring and clearancing is also a great shop that has been around for over 50yrs and have all brand new equip. They are just too far from me so Im not even considering them.

You are being shallow. You get to know the shop by way of references, talk to them about your build, see what they suggest, understand how they work, see if they offer any sort of warranty or guarantee and their protocol for doing so. It has nothing to do with ******* or going after anyone. This isn't some sort of trailer trash emotional relationship being referenced.

Like I said Im not one bit worried about this. All The shops Ive mentioned are great and Ive done the research and spoken with all of them. I dont think I could go wrong with any but Ive made my choice.
Speedinc will be doing the job. Ive talked to the machinist a couple times and we are both on the same page. Larry has been a huge part in my car and I would like to continue with them. Its the same guy that did Larry's 396 and many many other high end builds. Everything Speedinc has done for me has been great! Im very happy going with them.

Dude, my machinist is a pretty sharp guy and he even recommends Patterson Racing. They are in a lot of dirt track cars around me. Their webpage sucks though.

Yea I know, they have more than enough business to worry about their webpage. The word of mouth through their industry and on the track is more than enough to keep them busy. I see people wearing their T shirts quite a bit at tracks.

De-plug block, tap front galleys if not already done,
remove cam bearings,
wash and fill 1/2 way (including price of filler),
hone cylinders minimum with deck plate-,
re-balance,
pin fit rods and pistons and check large end and hone if nessessary,
Assemble short,
mount pistons on rods,
check oil clearance (mains and rods) and file fit rings,
Install splayed caps,
align bore and align hone mains,
steel top rings.
Should be a nasty shortblock
De-plug block, tap front galleys if not already done,
