EFI24x........ " opti 100% gone " is this true ? Opti gone including every bit of connective hardware ???..............wow. Okay, how much for a total retrofit from opti to EFI24x should I expect to pay for parts and install. The mechanic I use is actually trustworthy, as I've had many repairs, including an ls1 changeout.

I've had two optis since the car was new. The first one is still in working condition and is used as a backup where the 2nd was put on 3 years ago where the engine is taken up to 7000rpm. I don't get it...

That is why I say some guys have NO problems and others (like myself) have all kinds of problems...

I put a brand new Dynaspark on my car (checked all specs) still had a high rpm miss....pulled it back down and there was something shaking around in the opti...I always had problems....

Another one of my friends that has helped me install some of my optis has a Cheapo Ebay opti on his car and he spins it to 7k with not so much as a hiccup...

I don't get it either...

Yes the 24x COMPLETELY gets rid of the opti and uses crank and cam trigger sensors and individual coils....Check out eficonnection.com for more info..

I've heard on models like yours 95+ Matt that dowel pin length needs checked,if too long it can K.O. opti instantly,or problems with cap mounting too deep/tight...did you check that stuff....I would love the 24x system too if given the choice even though I'm not experiencing opti woes

Yep I never had any problems with my first one at least until my water pump started to leak and I drove it year round rain or shine.

its a good 2k so throw that out the window,
1. Do some research on here on opti r&r ive changed one in a parking lot at night in 2 hrs so going slow you should be done in no more then 4. Its easy

2. I recommend http://www.chandlermotorsports.com for the opti replacement and dont cheap out on the 1 yr warranty. Ive personally seen hes product and its a good piece plus hes a member on here so if you have any problems hes here to help.

3. 3.73's are recommended for autos and 4.10s for stick cars. not everyone agrees with it but thats life

Other than the stocker the one that is on the car now is also an AC Delco. I wouldn't trust any other brand no matter how many promises are made.

Let it dry out for a couple days, when I first got my car I washed the engine bay, it would not start for a couple days, let it dry out and was fine.

If you do decide to sell at least put a opti on it. I imagine you would get a decent amount for it then. Yes the water pump and crank pulley(harmonic balancer) has to come off. It isn't a hard job at all.

Let me know if you decide to sell the 3.73s. I've got my eye open for a good deal on new gears.

I think the 93-94 opti is more prone to failure than the 95-up opti. That's what I've seen from my experience, but I've only had my car for 8 months. I had the 93 motor, then swapped for a 95. The 95 appeared to have the original opti at 145,000 miles. It did go out on me and I swapped it for a Chandler unit and it's running great. I drive it everyday, rain or shine.

As far as install, I think it would be tough for someone who's never done it. You'll run into a few problems but as long as your not in a big hurry and you have the right tools, I think you'll be ok. Just don't force it on. Take the cap off and turn the rotor until it slides in without force. Bolt it down, then bolt the cap back on.

What Opti does your car have. The engine that was in my car was a 94 and it was still the spline drive. If im not mistaken 94.5 was when they switched to pin drive. Now if your car is a pin drive and your pin is actually sticking out to far it will also tear up the opti. Yeah optis are failure prone but man 7 of them there has to be a reason they are failing. But if ya want to spend the money 24x is the way to go!!
