Factor in the amount of work involved for each and you'll get a better idea of what you want.

The sticky tires and gears offer a lot. But I noticed your on an M6, which could break the 10 bolt, but more so if you were running slicks, I think you can get away with the drag radials, plus you add the fact that you have a stock clutch??....you should get away with it just fine, you can almost gaurantee you won't break it if you don't launch too hard, just stay under 2500 rpm.
I say go for the biggest returns aka the most bang for your bucks forget the "popular" modz. just my .02 cents tho. enjoy.
cough cough benchracer ...

Dood, what tranny doesn't break a 10-bolt? With sticky tires the 10-bolt is history. Besides that, how he's going to afford all of those parts with 600 dollars is beyond me, unless they're all stolen or something. And how is he going to do tuning at home??? LT1edit???

MeanZ, instead of just doing the "popular" mods, do the mods that let your motor breathe. Topend breath is important on bolt-on and modded cars alike. Don't do slicks if you don't have 2000 to drop on a Moser 12-bolt... gears are a possibility, but there are definitely some better ways to spend your 600 dollars.

My suggestion is still to do Jet Hot longtubes. Headers are a basic mod, and your going to need them before you do ANY kind of internal work.

Good luck buddy

I wouldnt go gears for all the aforementioned reasons, but also because your gas mileage will go in the *******.

I would go with a lightefelter (sp?) CAI. Its good, proven, and cheap. Then i would go for some headers. I would definately go with hooker any probably a y-pipe, jet hot coated if you can afford it. That will probably put you over $600 but it will definately be worth it.

And if you want cheap easy speed id go with a mechanical cutout. None of this electrical, its like getting power windows on a drag car, only for show.

You can get a cutout for 50 bucks and have it welded on at a shop for 20 bucks.

Id stick with the basics. Get air in, get air out. CAI gets it in, headers get it out.

If you want better track times then maybe some drag radials, but def not slicks.

PS-The best mods for a car are a good driver and traction.

Good way to put it. Get air in and get it out. With headers you get two benefits, good performance and good sound. Just to give you an idea I'll tell you what mods I have and what times I've turned.

I've got and automatic with CAI, MAC midlength headers and a cutout. When I was completely stock I ran a 14.3 @ 97 and with the bolt on's above ran a 13.5 @ 103 WITH a slipping transmission and street tires. Not sure what I'll run with the new tranny.

cough cough RIF(Reading is Fundamental) failures/wannabe's;
it's funny how the net produces smart-alecks with no brakes on their tongues who are quik to jump on the chit talking bandwagon without even thinking.

Automatics don't break 10 bolts as easy.
I didn't say he could do all of those for 600 bucks didi. I said those are HIS choices and maybe knowing what they do will help him figure out what HE wants to do. He doesn't HAVE to run slicks didi. He can run drag radials of his choice. AND he doesn't have to break his 10 bolt doing it. There are quite a few ppl here doing just fine with the 10 bolt NOT that I recommend dropping an aftermarket clutch at 3000 rpm on one.

Didi what you consider better or I consider better will always change from person to person. I consider better just how much faster it will make his car and just how much he will feel. Versus blowing it all on headers which flow the engine better but doesn't offer as big a gain as gears. But it's cool that you like headers better and maybe he will too. But the truth is the gears will give him more time therefore they offer more and outweigh the headers value IN MY OPINION which isn't what he has to go with. Cuz it's HIS car.
DIDI next time you OPEN your EXHAUST PIPE make sure it doesn't fart to the tune of a VTEC.
I'm not taking away from your suggestion I'm giving him a fair shake with some hard data that's all. The fact is gears give you more down the track. But headers let your engine breath better. I say to that SO??? To me it's all about what it does for you down the track. That's my orientation on it. If it don't take time off or make you faster I don't care what it does.
Meanz I still say throw the six in where it counts and hits the hardest. Definitely no slicks Nittos will due. I think everyone has offered good choices tho, def. headers have a lot to offer as well as CAI. The best choice would be ALL but with 600 bucks I would try to make it count as much as possible with the least of efforts. Either way man have FUN. Good luck.

I'm not even responding to that...

I see no point to do gears if your going to replace a rear. Once he starts modding internally, his 10-bolt is as good as dead. Hell, it's as good as dead right now! Why do gears if your going to have to replace an entire rear? It's a waste of money.

I agree it's his car, which is why not only myself but all of us are trying to present him with every angle. If he plans to do internal work to his car, or eventually run 12s, he's going to need a new rear- PERIOD. No getting around it. Gears are good on a bolt-on car, but not wise on a car that you want to run quick and trap high. Like somebody else already mentioned, the key to conserving money is to plan out your mods wisely.

The 10 bolt is as good as how you treat it didi, there are guys injecting nitrous and launching soft to prevent breakage. Secondly a bolt on car is EXCATLY what he is!!! Do you see power adders written anywhere on his description? You must be one of the mental cases here huh?
The Key to conserving money is not Rodding period the end. Money will be spent and nothing is guaranteed NOT to break. You can only HOPE not to. And even then the smallest things can like your U-joints after a BADAAZZ tire burnout session can just BREAK right at the tree. Like I said before INPUT your .02 cents and let others input as well anything else and your just a scrub talking ying-yang.
Don't be afraid to run any of these options if you watch where you dump your clutch and don't get over-zealous gears will do you just fine. If you feel scared then don't run the drag/street tires. Regular street tires will cut you some slack by peeling out instead of hooking. Your stock clutch also offers you slack in the same department.
There are many ppl running gears in 10 bolts and also running sticky tires. It's when you dare to go with FULL slicks and higher power that you blow it to smeethereens.

I'm not going to get into a pissing match with you over this. Name-calling is just total immaturity, especially on an internet message board. I disagree with you, so you call me a scrub? Please. Are you 12?

I don't know if you came from LS1.com, but that's sure what your behavior reminds me of. ******* grow up.

I think the CAI and headers are what I'll probably be going with, I plan on putting the Comp 306 in the car somtime later this summer, so headers will help me there, I want 4.10s but I need to save as much gas as I can right now, whenever I get a 12 bolt I will get 4.10s......thanks to everyone who responded...I will post a new thread when I get the headers, again thanks very much to everyone!
