Default 600 bones...

I have 600 dollars saved up...and it's time to spend it all on the Z. I just want some ideas on what to get to make the thing run into the 13s. It ran a 8.87 @ 84 in the 1/8 mile stock. I just need some ideas.......thanks

8.87@84 should have taken you well into the 13's. With $600 your forced to stick with some exhaust bolt-ons or maybe a used kit for some juice.

Thanks 94Formula, yea the 1/8th mile time was run with the owner before me, and they didn't have any 1/4 mile tracks, but I have a 1/4 mile track here in Bristol and was wondering if that 8.87 would be into the 13s.......thanks for answering that too!

You could probably put in a HOT cam kit for ~$600 if you did the install work yourself. Just a thought.

Not worth it IMO... the cam will be totally choked off on a completely stock exhaust.

use it for catback, CAI, and Jet Hot Longtubes. Save your money and do 1.6RR and a Comp 306 later if your looking for big power.

Good luck man!

I'm with Mario.

For $600, you could knock out some of the "basics". Cold-air induction kit, catback, maybe headers. If you find good used parts, you may be able to do all of those mods on your budget.

On a healthy LT1, those should get you into the 13's.

What about 4:10 gears also? I'm leaning towards SLP Loudmouth, Moroso CAI, and maybe gears....not sure though.

4.10s are a good choice, but if it were me I'd definitely go for Longtubes first.

Get yourself a nice quite cat back like the SLP 2otl, and have a cutout welded in. Get a K&N FIPK, and jump on a Jet Hot longtube GP. That should put you right around your limit, and well into the 13's. I'd stay away from the Loud Mouth, I had one and it was cool at first but got to be annoying very quick. I switched to the SLP 2otl, which is very subdued sounding, then I added a electric cutout, so I could still open it up if I wanted.

Just saw you mentioned gears as an option as well. If you don't plan on doing anymore serious mods then do the gears. However, if you are going to add a cam or a power adder you're going to need a 12 bolt, which will come with a new gear ratio. In which case I wouldn't waste the money on gears yet, the cost of the gears will be close to a fourth of the the entire 12bolt. I just don't like to do things twice, so I'm still on stock gears and saving for a 12 bolt.

He makes a very good point... that's one of the reasons why I've still got my stock 10bolt/7.5" with 2.73s.

You could also do Jet Hot Longtubes with an X-Pipe if you wanted something more original...

Yep, I've already done to many things twice on this car, planning my mods a lot more carefully now.

FLat out if you want the biggest gains for your bucks GET A QTP CUTOUT. It MAKES YOU GO WIDE OPEN EXHAUST with a switch. Cost 150$$$. Then get yourself some 4.10 gears from Gear R US. for like 100 bucks. Installation I dont know but figure $200.bucks you got 150 left over towards the exhuast place installing the cutout.
http://www.quicktimeperformance.com/...atalog_lt1.htm

A chip is also worth looking at $150.00 bucks PCMforLess.com

This will yeild the best HP and thrust for the money. If anything you will need new tires afterwards. Trust me nothing will ever give you the feeling these mods will give you again. Everything else will seem little to this, outside of cams and heads.

with the cutout you can put off the headers for the next time you save up. Go for the speed FIRST!!!! have fun. The cutout does not have to open all the way so you could get the sound of an entire new exhuast system.

It's all good you'll still feel a good difference from the QTP.
Definitely do the gears.
If you want to scratch the QTP I would go with Chip+sticky tires+gears. Your looking at huge gains there.

I'd do Jet Hot Long tubes, and a cut out. The Jet Hot's are designed exactly like the hookers, but come ceramic coated. If you're ever on the CZ28.com board they do group purchases all of the time. I believe they're like 475 shipped, but don't quote me. If you've got some left over after that find a used CAI kit. Used they usually go for about 100 bucks or so. If you want to go new, go with the Lingenfelter CAI www.lingenfelter.com It's identicle to the Moroso but only cost 150 shipped. You'll be impressed with the power you'll gain by just adding headers and a cold air kit.

I have pretty similar mods, and I saw awesome gains from my Hooker LT's. I ran 13.43, with a lot less gear than you (2.73). The LT's would compliment your exhaust nicely, and would get you well into 13's, if you aren't there already.

That's a pretty good time with 2:73's and your mods! Especially in an automatic.

I've heard that a few times. I was pretty happy, it was really good air that day. 60fts a killer with the 2.73s, 2.034 on that run.

The best way to figure what you want is to give it a fair time off rating:
Headers .2-.3 tenths a lot of work
Gears . 4-.6 tenths work outsourced
Chip .2 tenths easy@home
Sticky tires .3-.6 tenths easy@shop
CAI .1 tenth fairly easy@home
QTP .2-.3 tenths work outsourced
Pro 5.0 shifter .030-.080 just plain cool fair@home

Factor in the amount of work involved for each and you'll get a better idea of what you want.

The sticky tires and gears offer a lot. But I noticed your on an M6, which could break the 10 bolt, but more so if you were running slicks, I think you can get away with the drag radials, plus you add the fact that you have a stock clutch??....you should get away with it just fine, you can almost gaurantee you won't break it if you don't launch too hard, just stay under 2500 rpm.
I say go for the biggest returns aka the most bang for your bucks forget the "popular" modz. just my .02 cents tho. enjoy.
