That looks good, bet that engine could gone a long time, I dont see the point of refreshing the engine (every bearing looks new in good condition). Any good luck with the rebuild.
What is that for valve train setup you have there? never saw something like that in an LTx, is it a shaft-mounted rocker arm setup. What are you going to do with the opti or is it still a secret?

i chamfered all the oil holes in the valley and did some other oil control mods......speced up all the bearings and cylinder walls and sent the block out to get honed and re-checked to be square......getting it back friday hopefully.......got the new rings on order from total seal waiting on all the other parts too.....headers, bearings, ignition stuff....blah blah blah........more pics friday when i get the block back........gonna do an old school trick for oil control this time

Just curious, why go through all the oil control mods and tricks if everything looked mint?
Seems like it wouldn't hurt to leave well enough alone, unless you are reassembling it with different clearances.

it looked mint but i did have a drain back issue........with 6qts in the pan when i back off the throttle at the end of the 1/4 and the nose comes down the pressure was going from 65 down to 40 then back up.......means it was sucking air for a split second........i fixed it by running 7.5 quarts........but thats prob a 10 hp loss just due to windage........trying to fix it to run on 6qts......if this doens't fix it i got another plan.......

Steam pipes? So none of the oil drips down onto the cam. The oil drains back to the pan through the very front and very back of the block.

i gotta do some oil control mods on the heads too once i get the valves out of them.......hopefully tonight....

My shortblock was done up in POR15 to aid drainback, have you thought about trying that? I've never used it yet personally, but it does have its fans.
Can't wait to see it back together.
