That would be a waste of $$ and all it would do is promote brake hop. Sticky tires + good brakes unloads the rear end a hell of a lot more than street tires which is why road race guys run a less aggressive pad on the rear with f-bodies.

Autocross is nowhere near as hard on brakes as a road course, but sam does do track days with his car so I'm sure he will have some good insight.

Yeah I figured a good setup to run on my car (LT1) Would be C5 front brake upgrade, Hawk HPS front pads, and stock rear LT1 brakes w/ some Hawk Ceramics.

Ideally I'd like to do LS1 rears too, but I think for the way I drive this will be really nice.

I have the KORE 3 C5 kit and bought the 2 pc rotors. It has worked well for me and was about $1340 for everything. The rotors are heavy though...

Is this from personal experience?
Most run a proportioning valve to combat this. If the weight ballance is good on the car you need some rear brake to help squat the car. If your running a stock weight balance then yea you will lock it up all day long with out a proportioning valve. I guess it really depends on setup and what you as a driver like.

No need to run LS1 rears, some good pads on the rear with the LT1 brakes is all you need. As far as the front, I would go to the C5/C6 setup if keeping 17" wheels. The calipers are much stronger than the LS1 calipers which are known for spreading due to the weaker design casting. I switched a long time ago to the C5 setup with Hawk HP+ pads and it was like having a new car the braking was SO strong. I would run HPS pads though if mostly street or if you don't mind your wheels getting black on a daily basis as the HP+ pads are very dusty and squeak when not up to temp, they are great for autox though.

Is there a legit place besides junk yards to buy C5 brakes that won't cost an arm and a leg?

Also, If you get the conversion bracket to run the C5 brakes, do you need to switch to the LS1 style spindle or can you use your factory one?

if you use the stock LTx spindle you have to cut the "ears" off that act as caliper slides....Then just bolt up the bracket and go....

What is the advantage of a rotor like that?

I have the Kore3 C5-Z06 front brakes with EBC yellow stuff pads front & rear with braided lines all the way around and the car's braking is unbelievably better than stock.

I did a Wilwood brake conversion on my Firehawk a year ago. Dual piston calipers front and rear, bigger diameter rotors and stainless steel lines.
Couldn't be happier. Was able to keep the Firehawk wheels.
