Would it be okay to tow with LT1's?

Wow, I didn't know that wood and duct tape were suitable materials for a trailer tounge, I generally perfer steel and welds, but whatev, why didn't you use that old stabin cabin you were parked next to to tow?

You mean like this? I towed both of these things 500 miles from Connecticut to West Virginia, and both times the car was completely loaded down with food/clothes for the semester. Towed fine, but you definitley felt it. I still have the hitch, and am looking to sell it. With a standup jetski in a not loaded down car, you will be fine.

hey now, I had the angle steel to support the 2x4, and long bolts holding it to the frame of the tounge, the duct tape was just to keep the wires from touching the ground. I was able to jump up and down on the tounge and it held solid. I did get alot of people slowing down on the highway to take pictures of me, a camaro with west virginia tags towing a 73-87 chevy pickup bed on a 4ft x 4ft trailer with tiny tires...who cares it made it the full 500 miles.

I've towed ~1300lbs (2-2 seater jetskis on a double trailer) for the past 5 years, and towed my snowmobile in the winter with an automatic 3.4L. I don't know how much you have into your car, but either way an older camaro isn't exactly prestigious, use it for what you need. It clearly has the power and weight to be able to handle significantly more than you're going to tow.

As far as towing guys can say what they want but to me it's a perfect fit. Why go waist money on another car or truck if you don't have to? My step dad (RIP) used to tow our 17 welcraft bow rider with a 93 Z-28. In the old days my dad used to tow our 18 foot glastron which had a ford 289 in it with those old 2 and 4 door sedans from the late 70's and 80's. I towed a 17 foot flats boat around with a 98 PrandPrix GTP. It can be done but with the camaro I wouldn't go around towing a boat with it unless the whole thing weighed in at under 2000lbs. More like 1500lbs max. And no we are not red necks. My real dad is grew up in Wilmington, PA and my step dad live most of his life in New York City working for Digital Equipment now known as HP. We lived in Florida at the time we did all this. You are eventually going to tow a water craft of some kind when you live in FL so Why not do it with the Camaro? Unfortunately through the years living here the boats I have owned have gotten bigger and I can no longer tow with modern cars so I had to go get an alternate tow vehicle. I say do what works for your budget and if people give you **** ask them if they would like to buy you a 5 to 10 thousand dollar tow vehicle. Just don't be trying to launch it from anything other than a ramp unless the ground is tight packed.

I guess if you had to do it you could toss some air bags in the back to help the rear springs.
Either way I cringe when I see people hauling trailers with a Camaro or something similar.
Brings a new definition to the term trailer queen...

my biggest worry was always pulling the bolts through the frame rails. Its not very thick metal that hte hitch attaches to, and unibodys were never meant to tow anyways. 1500 lbs max is what I would stick to, but the buicks and cadillacs with the LT1s were rated at like 5000lbs towing with the LT1 and 4L60e, but they were body on frame. My dad used to tow his 17 foot bowrider with this 69 mustang, until the rusty trunk floor gave out and the hitch actually pulled out his whole trunk and he had to drag the boat home by 1 bolt hole on the hitch and the rest dragging on the pavement.

An F body should handle anything under 1,000 lbs. Be careful that too much weight isn't on the tounge (*** of car down stance) or you will roast the axle bearings in short order.
