I think mine are 40's too actually I typed it wrong.

Do yourself a favor, dont even waste your time on a cheap stall. Buy a good one.

Dont buy junk rockers either. Just wait til you have the money to do it right.

I was planning on getting a YANK.

Are pro form rockers "junk"?

Yank is good. I like Circle D as well.

Yes, IMO they are, but to their credit a buddy has used them in a high rpm 350 for several years and has had no issues.

Theres more to rocker performance than just whether it breaks or not, though.

Go with a Yank SS3600 converter. It's a no-brainer for your setup.
There's nothing unique about 4.10 gears that would make a converter feel looser than it would with milder gears.......in fact, the opposite is true: the steeper the gearing, that snappier the car will feel with a given converter. Definitely some misguided information in this thread !

I don't know who to listen too, I've gotten so many different answers to my convertor question!

Its common ******* sense, the more gear you have the less stall you need.

You trying to tell me steeper gears dont change the shift extension?

Have you ever even driven a hotcam car?

And if your hotcam question is to me also, I haven't driven a hot cam car.

My comments were directed towards bowtie.

Good luck with whatever you choose man. You asked for opinions, and you got them.

Calm down there, buddy.
Yes, I've driven several Hotcam cars. And I'd venture I've driven and raced far more weight/gearing/cam/converter combos than you have. How about you school me on shift extension
Common sense also says the more gear you have, the more stall you can tolerate. I recommended the best driving and best performing converter you can lay your hands on in the 3000 to 3600 stall range. Period.
Edit: BTW, my first post was in response to comments from the OP in posts #12 and #14, regardless of where the info came from.

That much we can almost fully agree on. Still a general statement though.

A hotcam simply doesnt need 3600 stall and 4:10's. Will it run well with that combo, yes.

IMO a 3000-3200 would be more ideal and take better advantage of the powerband of the hotcam.

JMO of course.

OP heres a tip for you, and its the real answer to these kinds of threads.

That is, CALL YOUR BUILDER.

They do this for a living, tell them what you want out of the car and what the mods are, and let them build you a converter....

The same should be said for lots of things. Never rely on the internet to make your decisions for you. Talk to real people who do this **** every day, and who already have attained the kind of results you want to, and then be willing to try some things your self. Thats what the fun in all this is.

Both of you are starting to agree.

Bowtie what do you think, 4.10, hotcam, 3000 stall?

Anyone else who has input, say it! LOL

If performance is not a high priority, then go with any stall between 2800 and 3600 (good efficiency range for 9.5" street converters). Circle D is the only brand discussed here that I don't have experience with, but I'm telling you from experience that the SS3600 Yank will outperform and be every bit as driveable (tight feeling) on the street as a 3000 stall in the other quality brands (Vig, Coan, Edge,) I've run it in vehicles weighing from 3600 to 4800 lbs, with gearing from 3.73 to 5.57, and from stock LT1 cams to the current cam in my car.

Whoa! Those 12" converters, whether from Yank or whoever, do NOT compare to the 9.5" or similar sized converters you should be considering. If you're hard on that $500-$550 budget range, then one I'd consider would be an Edge 2800 or 3000. It would drive about like the Yank SS3600, but of course have less punch out of the hole. I hear good things about Circle D; maybe someone else can recommend something equivalent from them.

I'm going to use the scorpion 1.7 rockers, that'll put the hotcam up to .557 lift instead of .525. I've heard really good reviews from people who have/had them.

dont go lower then a SS3600, but i would recommend the SS4000 for you and your setup. you wont be dissapointed trust me. spend the money on this mod. its important.

and for the record taller gears tighten the feeling of a higher stall, so taller gears "tame" higher stalls.

and if a SS3600 is too large for this hotcam car, why does it cut me 1.67 60fts in my BOLT ON ONLY car with BONE STOCK SUSPENSION? and drive like stock on the street?

go big or go home,u'll regret getting anything less then a 3600, and u will regret cheaping out on the converter buy from a reputable converter company (yank, Vig, circle d, coan)

.....
adding to that, it gave me 1.59 60's in my Bolt-on 3900 lb Impala, drove like a dream with both 4.10 and 4.88 gears in there, and drives damn well in my 4900 lb pickup right now in front of of 3.73 gears and 29" tires, better than the Vig 3000 I previously had in the pickup.
