Default How much hp can stock 4L60E handle?

Have a stock 4L60E with about 10,000 miles since full rebuild. Going to do an ss3600 stall and was wondering if a shift kit or pcm tune was all i need for this trans? See sig for specs.

I wouldn't expect it to last too long, only saying this cause mine got destroyed when my car was stock and I went through two "built" ones from a supplier on this board.

But just for insurance get a large cooler for the trans fluid and shift kit. I would also get a tune since you have a cam.

It depends on your driving habits. It could break tomorrow or last 5 years. My stock one took some good abuse for a few years before i went FLT. If everything is done right it should last for a while.

It has been rebuilt, it is not stock. the vast majority of rebuild 4L60Es are junk, hopefully you got lucky.

4L60's last about as long as a stock 10-bolt. Some guys have great luck and are able to push them hard, some guys grenade them in a month. Who rebuilt it? If it cost under $750 i'd say it probably isn't very good. Some of the most reputable shops that build STRONG 4L60E's offer them for around $1500ish.

Forget the name but it was a shop recommended by a fellow LT-4 Vette guy. They charged $1350 and supposedly put upgraded parts and updates or something. I don't know anything about trans so I could have been hosed!!

After 13 years with my stock tranny and Transgo kit, many hundreds of NA passes with 300rwhp and 50-75 nitrous passes at 425 rwhp, running low 11's and cutting 1.4x 60's, all we found at teardown for a refresh was half worn out 3-4 clutches and half worn out 2-4 band. There are very few that can put them together as well as GM did.
Unless you're putting big power through the trans, the stocker is VERY hard to beat. It doesn't look from your sig that you're putting what I call "big power" through it, so whether it holds up or not is entirely dependent on the quality of rebuild you got.

You can be like me....buy a stockish car ( only intake and exhaust)

And the trans is slipping like a bitch

As a couple of us have said truly stock as in original is usually better than rebuilt. Not a lot of shops that can genuinely build this tranny well, though a LOT are happy to take your money and try.

Also things like bad pcm reprogramming can hurt the tranny.

If a V6 killed 3 4L60Es then there was another problem causing the failures, there was a problem internally not getting fixed or the shop was just blatantly incompetent.

IMO when shopping for a 4L60E there are two choices, GM reman or a full build from someone good like Rossler, ProBuilt, FLT. I have a ProBuilt and am very happy after 7 years of abuse.
