I met a guy a few weeks ago, said he's running 12.68 in a full weight m6 car with headers and a handheld tune.

Is that possible?

specific rules were set by GMHTP in 1997 for there bolt on only shootout. That is what we go off of as a fair level playing field. any simple mod that dosent touch motor oil only exception is roller rockers. Stock heads, stock cam, stock shortblock, stock compression, no PA, etc. a 9 inch will slow you down so if you put one in its kind of stupid imo because a 10 bolt is just fine at these power levels. IMO you should have to have a stock trans (4l60e, T-56, or 700r4) to be considered bolt on only but i dont think it was apart of the GMHTP rules for there shootout.

The street stock class at the ltx shootout goes by almost the same rules and is a bolt on only class.

there is a lot of variables missing. How much does it actually weigh? whats the rest of his exhaust like? where did he run? tires? there is something missing there, he has more bolt ons then just a handheld tune and headers. but a minimal bolt on car can easily be in the mid 12's

It's good to see new times are still being posted up.
I'll never know what mine would have run now. I was full bolt ons except for TB & RR. 1997 SS M6, 95,000 miles, Pro 5.0, LT's with Hooker CB, ORYP, 4.10's, KYB AGX shocks/struts, tune, EWP, K&N CAI, SFC, DA Aluminum LCA's with relo brackets, DA Aluminum PHB. I think I could have managed 12.75 or so with a good launch. Car is apart now for heads/cam (along with the TB, ported intake, and RR that would have finished my bolt-ons). I think I'll always kinda regret not getting to run it with just bolt-ons, but the time is right for the work. Good luck to all of you. I'm still going to keep up with this.

i dont see how aftermarket rockers are considered a bolt on when they are part of the valvetrain and touch the engine's oil.

It is possible if he is really good at tuning, the weather was amazing, and he is John Force

cool man. sounds like a sweet car. Yeah i am glad I made this thread. Everyone did bolt ons in one point in time its nice to keep a list of the fastest.

It is also good because today it is getting harder and harder for the average weekend racer to still enjoy the sport. Sticking to bolt ons and having a meaningful goal to reach keeps the racing spirit alive and well in people. and i know like most of us this is our escape from work and other facits of life that we don't enjoy as much.

From my understanding it is such a simple common mod that they chose to include it in the rules for the shootout. I am going to dig up the article and post it on the orginal post.
