I believe if your gonna replace the pump then go electric or if your stock one is working then leave it alone.

Yes, replace the pump. And as far as it being a bad job, I can have an opti in my hand in less then 1 hour. Its not bad at all. Here's some pics from when I popped my opti cherry

For you guys running an electric pump, which brand did you go with? CSR? I looked around at it seems to be the only brand I can find.

100% replace it cause if your 80k pump goes bad and leaks onto your new opti you will be very unhappy may still run but over time will go bad. they should not charge for a new pump labor anyways. for 150 extra great insurance, elec pump is good for weekend worrier but daily car stay with stock type

I have a buddy with about 40k on his Summit Racing unit. I just installed my summit Racing unit. It was easy and works good. Nice thing is it comes with wiring.

I've been using the same CSR pump for 7 years now. So far so good!

CSR pumps offer an advantage over the Meziere in terms of space. They are MUCH smaller and you don't have to hack up your fan shroud to run them, retaining precious engine bay space.

I'm in the if it isn't broke don't fix it camp. If you are paranoid about the weep hole make a water chute under the weep hole.

How difficult is the wiring for an electrical pump? I took a look at the above links and I see that there is a plug at the end of the wiring. Is there someone to plug this harness into? Or something that will require splicing?

Easy to wire! I mounted the supplied relay and circut breaker behind the PCM. Its two 10mm bolts holding the PCM and it just slides out. I ran my wires in the factory looms going to the front near the water pump. I used a hidden wire under my center console to supplied Keyed Ignition to the relay for the pump. That way the pump is on when the key is on. Don't have to worry about a switch. See the links for routing wires through the firewall where you can also see where to mount the relay and also see the link for the hidden accesory wires.

It's definitely one of the easier electrical installs you can do.

IIRC, Painless makes a wiring kit that makes it even easier, but even if you are 10% coherent in wiring, you can wire it up yourself using a standard 4-pin automotive relay.
