Knock Module ?'s
ok so i have been searching on here about the LT4 knock module. mods in sig plus a 234/242 cam, ls7 lifters, and new timing chain going in this week. i will be getting a mail tune for now.... so anyway it looks like 50% of people say get the LT4 KM and the other 50% say save your money and just get it tuned. so what should i do??

yeah i meant that they will just tune the LT1 KM to be less sensitive. but then theres other people that say that you should get the LT4 KM so im not sure what i should do.

You should be fine with the stock KM. The tuner can make it pull the timing less aggressively, and recover the timing faster. If your setup is in full working order and have a good tune, a LT4 KM won't give you anything you don't already have.

My two cents.
The tune can be adjusted to pull x amount of timing when the KS detects knock and it can also be adjusted on how fast normal timing recovers. However I dont think the "sensitivity" of what the KS detects can be adjusted in the tune and there lies the purpose of the LT4 KM.
Last year during WOT dyno tuning and with the LT1 KM, on a few pulls I got a small amount of KR that we just couldn't get rid of. The tune was optimized for power so we did not want to start dialing things down since it was a sporadic thing and we were convinced it was false knock. We then put the LT4 KM in and voilą, absolutely no knock retard.
I personally believe that the LT4 KM has built in filtering that the LT1 KM does not. Again I dont think you can adjust this filtering in the tune or make a LT1 KM behave in the exact same manner as a LT4 KM. It also makes since that if the tune was capable of doing everything the LT4 KM can do, why did GM even create the LT4 KM?
Maybe I am wrong, but the LT4 KM resolved the problem. Glad I bought it for $30 bucks 5 years ago.

So though it is desensitized to when it pulls it can still pull incorrectly due to the filtering of sound.
If this is not the case then wouldn't the LT1 KM and the LT4 KM be the same and wouldn't they have only changed the tune in the LT4s to accommodate?
I would say that most of the time the desensitized KM would work, the LT4 still has benefits.
...or so I've read.
