Default Installed aftermarket overflow container...issues...

I picked up one of the plastic summit overflow containers since after doing the battery relocation, the stock container looked out of place. Anyways Ive been noticing that I fill up the radiator with coolant drive the car for a day or two and then 1/4 of the coolant drains into the overflow tank. Any reason for this? I have to keep emptying the container back into the radiator.

Probably because you don't have it recirculating. The hose from the filler neck needs to go to the bottom of whatever can you have.

Hmmmm...yeah I had the tube come from the top of the container. So I should basically flip it over. Although the bottom has a lever switch to empty the container.

Is the container vented? also have you replaced the radiator cap? if so is it an 18psi cap?

yeah, the container has a small vent hole up top. Cap is factory.

Yep. Sounds like you got a catch can, not a recirculating overflow bottle. If you put the hose on the bottom and leave the lever open, it will work fine, as long as it is big enough to hold the amount of coolant that comes out as the system comes up to temp.

So just hook the line up to the bottom lever and plug the top part?

Yep. Or you can run a hose from the top off somewhere you would like coolant to go if it overflows the tank for some reason.

Thanks for the advice...I did not know you needed the line hooked up at the bottom of the container.

You didn't reverse the hoses on the radiator did you?

I wouldn't think it would be puking into the overflow all the time, as it has to overcome the seal of the cap to push coolant into there. Something that shouldn't be happening on a regular basis IMO.

put the stock tank back in and drove the 50 mile round trip with no issues, so it must be what was stated above about the line needs to go to the bottom of the overflow tank.

The block and heads expand when they are hot. Less room for coolant = it pushes some out and sucks it back in when it cools off.
