Default What does this combo of codes mean....

Alright I'm thinking my opti is bad... I'm getting codes

36 Distributor ignition system (faulty high resolution pulse or extra low resolution pulse detected)

42 Ignition Control (IC) circuit (shorted or grounded circuit)

44 Bank 1 (left) Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Circuit (lean exhaust indicated)

What thing or combination of things could this be? Brand new motor, ALL brand new parts... MSD opti, MSD coil... heated 02 conversion with new Delco 02's.

Hard to think a brand new opti, even MSD would be bad so quick. Possible. I'd check the harness connector where the MSD opti connects along the pass. side of the intake (clean contacts with electronics cleaner)

ICM is new or old? Have that tested at AutoZone and have them run the test several times in a row so it can get warm and fail if it's going to

O2s- clear codes, swap sides and see if it switches to the other bank.

Good places to start...

Did you clear them and they all came right back?

Basically what's happening is I drive the car, it act's fine with no codes until suddenly it backfires and the SES light comes on, starts running crappy. I can park the car and start it up again, and the majority of the time it drives fine. But it's hit and miss when it acts up.

The other day I couldn't get the car out of the parking lot before it happened, and it wanted to shut off.

The ICM is the coil right? The coil is a brand new MSD blaster. The opti is brand new MSD, new harness all connections are clean and good...

It's only got about 300 miles on it, but a lot of those miles were break in and tuning miles, spinning to around 6500 rpm at WOT.

ICM is the Ignition Control Module- it's the piece just above the coil. They tend to get a bit flaky at warm temps as they age. Replace with a Delco if it's found to be bad. They're close to $100.00 but they'll last 15 years vs. a few months to a couple years with aftermarket.

I've had code 42 pop up several times last year and it wasn't the ignition module it was the wiring to the module was broken. The engine would make a loud pop sound then stall right after. The lean condition could be because of a faulty 02 sensor, possible exhaust leak, faulty or dirty injectors, or intake leak. The Opti code should only be one of three things. wiring from the computer to the opti, computer, or opti....start checking the wiring first.

If its misfiring usually it will give you a rich code instead of a lean code from fuel being dumped in and not burned. I would start by visually checking all the wires and then ICM would be my next guess.
