Default MSD blaster coils=FAIL do not buy just go GM.

3 month old MSD blaster coil...failed last night....luckily a buddy had a spare stock coil. Probably about 15 yrs old. Worked great and got the car home.

Just goes to show I think truly the only quality parts are the original AC Delco products.

Fuggin amazin.

I have had a MSD Blaster coil on my 96 Z with no problems for over 2 years and 15K+ miles.

But with that said, I have always been told to stick with Delco version.

I have had the same MSD blaster coil on my 1997 SS for 9 years and 50,000 miles with no problems. I had one on my 1991 TBI truck for 5 years and 75,000 miles with no problems. I also had a Blaster 2 canister coil on my Plymouth for 10 years and before I replaced it with a 7AL2 set up, I ran a 9.64 on a 10 year old coil

I had an MSD coil fail a long time ago, but they replaced it for free and that one has been going strong for 10+ years.

honestly if a stock part can do the job, stick with it no matter what the part. the aftermarket is much more hit or miss than OEM pieces.

You'd figure someone would develop a good inexpensive after market solution by now.. This might as well be a BMW part..

Would a SES code for low res ignition be related to the coil or most definitely the opti?

Code 16 = Opti or low res signal degradation along the pigtail from opti to PCM.

Why? The GM coil lasts for a long long time, and it is relatively cheap to replace.

Just like Gojira94 said, it's the opti.

Incredible....you guys should try lotto...cuz I ran an MSD coil on a 75 Z28 also and it failed relatively quickly as well. This 1 is literally 3 months maybe 3000 miles.

I have ran the Crane Fireball for yrs before with it never dieing...I wanted to give MSD another try that's all.....but I dont think I'll be picking up any of their products anymore.

I knew it was a low res code, but never heard the part about "along the pigtail from opti to PCM." That is kind of good news for me because I recently got this code. Cleared it and it didn't come back for a few thousand miles. Then one day I had a total no crank/no spark condition. A quick visual turned up that all 4 wires to my opti were chewed threw on the engine harness side by a rodent. (Along with the HVAC vac elbow.) I soldered the wires and it cranked right up running perfectly. Now 1,500 miles I have a missfire and no codes. I'm going to check plug wires, ICM, coil, etc this weekend.

I only have a few hundred miles so far. Since I was replacing everything else to do with the ignition this was the matching coil for the ignition box I already had.

Looks pretty cool - although you guys are right; its probably just added weight

Pictured here next to my old Crane fireball coil
The HVCII Blaster coils are a very nice coil for 99% of street cars, I've been running one for a few months now.

I brought one years ago and it failed last year with about 4k miles on it. I went and brought another one from here and its been working fine ever since. Although I do carry a backup coil ac delco coil just in case.
