Default true dual slip fit install question

I have pacesetter lt's installed and I am about to start on the rest of the true dual exhaust. My only problem is going from the 3 inch slip fit collector to the 2.5 inch tubing for the rest of the exhaust. I've seen a few people weld flanges onto th e collector which I'd rather not do. What are my other options?

Weld on two reducers on the ends of the true duals. 3.00" ID on one end and 2.5" OD on the other end.

One like this:

Also get a nice pair of 3" band clamps:

Is there not a way to clamp a reducer over the collector? Or will I have to weld it?

You weld the reducer to the true duals part of the exaust and clamp it to the collector of the headers.

Trust me on this, weld on flanges. They make life so much easier.

The band clamps suggested above are great for slip fit, I run 4 on my TD setup.

I've had a 100% welded dual setup before, it's great until you have to drop the tranny or replace a head gasket.
I had flanges on my hooker LTs, I hated them. I couldn't get them to seal properly.

Im looking at buying some pacesetter LT headers and noticed that they wont have a flang. The band clamps are somthing ive been suggested to use before and by looking at them in the pictures above they look easy to work with. What about exhaust leaks? Do they seal up well?

Yes band clamps seal up very well.

Sounds good, thanks for the reply. So I would just butt the collector from my headers up to my x-pipe and clamp? Sounds easy enough.

You can do that but I would suggest slipping the x-pipe over the headers then using the "lap joint" style clamps and clamp it together. I have used these clamps on a handful of vehicles over the years and never had a problem.

Well they should supply stainless hardware with the stainless clamps. I have had a set rust so bad I couldn't get the bolts out, just got new hardware and it was good as new

Find a muffler shop that can expand the 3 inch opening of the reducer to slip over the collector of the header.
