I have had this problem before with small block Chevy's, and pulled the distributor cap shot some WD-40 in it, PROBLEM SOLVED.

On LT1 can't do!!
So when this happened on my Z28 I took a hair drier layed it above the distributor so it blew on the top of distributor, let run blowing hot air on distributor for about 1.5 hr.
Then layed it under distributor on top of steering linkage to blow about 2 hr on bottom of distributor. PROBLEM SOLVED started right off!!
Unfortunately water + metal = corrosion, so you may not be out of the woods yet. Drying it sometimes helps short term, but getting the internals wet enough to stop it from starting does reduce the life of the opti.
