Default Security light, keeps locking starter out.

Ok this is the third time this has happened, First was back in August, second was Thanksgiving day, third was today. All three times the security light was illuminated on the dash. First two times i simply disconnected the battery and was on my merry way. This time it took three disconnects/reconnects to get it going again. How do I eliminate this stupid starter lockout?

I deal with these on a daily basis being a locksmith. Either the resistor is worn and not getting good contact, the piece in the Ign is worn out, or the wire has a break in it. You can read the value on you key in ohms and put in a resistor that correlates with that value into the plug itself under the dash. Shbox has it all on his site on how to go about this.

aalso it take anywhere from 3-3.45 minutes to clear out the security light. its a fun waiting game when trying to determine a value for a car with no existing key.

Does anyone know what type of relay i should wire into the VATS circuit. Says here you cut the purple and white wire and splice in a relay with the same resistance as my VATS chip in my key, which is 1865

You can use an ABS relay, they are usually better built. Just stay away from any of that bargain **** in most stores.

You need a resistor not a relay. It does matter what resistance it is. If your key is 1865 you need to go find a resistor or multiple resistors and splice those. I did mine and bought the supplies from radio shack.

^^^correct. The relay stays intake unless you are deleting the starter relay as well as tuning it out of the ecm. The resistor goes under the dash at the column. It is two white wire wrapped in an Orange sleeve coming out of the column into a black plug. You disconnect the plug and put you resistor into the plug that leads into the wire loom. If you have questions feel free to pm me. I bypass about 10 of these a week.

Yea exactly what he said.
Resistor for the ignition bypass and a relay for the starter.
