I found another Bowtie Block (GM Race Shop)

You can still buy Bowtie blocks. I sold last years block and bought a new one this winter. Much better blocks than original LT1 blocks. Cylinder walls never move. Harder iron, they just don't wear, but will give you a hernia carrying it around. Much heavier than my filled LT4 block my old 383" has. Money well spent.

That is a GEN 1 style bowtie block, not an LT1 bowtie block. Still sounds like a great deal. Ed, you run the GEN1 style block now also don't you? Excuse me if I'm wrong....just looks that way from your post about them not being set up for the reverse flow cooling.
That does look like a nice deal on a splayed 4 bolt LT1 block bored .030" for $500. It's only about 3 hours from me too.

I've only seen pictures of them. A few have popped up on Ebay over the last ten years or so. If you go back to the beginning of this thread you'll find more info on them.
As far as using the Gen1 style: If I were running anything but an optispark & stock pcm then there is no way I'd be using an LT1 block. I don't blame you one bit for running what you do. I still for the life of me can't figure out why more people who have the 24x setup don't just step up to a 400 sbc or one of the cheaper dart blocks.
I always enjoy reading your posts and learning what I can.

I've never seen one so this is speculation, but I would think it would go to 4.185" with no problems. (400 sbc bore plus .060" over) I wonder what affect the siamese bore would have on cooling as far as the LT1's ability to run higher compression than typical sbc's due to their superior reverse flow system?

I admire you superstock racers, but I just have the typical street/strip car. I was talking about how you can run in the neighborhood of 12:1 safely on 93 octane pump gas with an LT1 block compared to the older small blocks. For all of you running race gas it doesn't really matter about the differences.
I would have to go back and re-read this whole thread, but I think there were only a handful of the LT1 bowtie blocks ever made.

Sorry...not this thread. There was another thread on the GM big bore LT1 blocks on here somewhere. It was back while there was a current auction for one. One of the members on here ended up with the winning bid, but we haven't heard much of it since. Others who have kept up with all this better will hopefully give more info.

I would be interested to see one. Don't really need one for anything. If they exist, I'm surprised my contact at GM doesn't know about them.
As far as SS racers, we have to be a little crazy to spend what we do, and work our butts off to try to keep up. We are not a real bright bunch. LOL

Part number:
Here's another one, serial number #13, notice that it is bored out more than the first one yet still has the same part number.
Brady aka Roadtrip120 was the lucky guy who won the ebay auction for the one pictured at the top. He paid right around $4k for it. He told me he has since sold it.
