Need help finding specs on Custom Grind Nu-Tek camshaft!
I've read all the horror stories and nightmares about Nu-Tek going under back in '03. The 383 I bought has a Nu-Tek Custom Grind 22303 camshaft and I need to find the specs so I can degree my cam. How can I make this happen?
I really dont want to have to buy a new cam just because Im unsure of the specs.

Man, I haven't heard from Nick in years. He did my 95 for me in '00.
Odds are that your cam was a one-off, but I think I know someone with a similar grind.

Do you have a cam card or anything like that? The last I talked to Nick was in 02' when he did my short block. The last I knew, he was working for Compstar. I dont know if you'd be able to get ahold of him through them or not.

I bought it from a friend but he does not know anything about the cam or where the card may be. I would love to get ahold of this Nick Norris to figure this baby out. The heads were custom CNC'd by Nick as well. I CC'd the combustion chambers and they are 55cc. I have all of the flow data on them. I should scan it onto here to let you guys look at the specs and tell me what ya think.

1) The cam will have outdated lobe profiles
2) It's used
3) You have to do a bunch of leg work to figure out what it was
4) It wasn't designed for your application.
5) It's not installed or tuned yet, so there's no rework if you change your mind.
6) You'll get zero support from Nick
For all of that ... I'd order a custom grind for and call it done.

Here's the deal. Bought the whole engine from a buddy. It was built by Nu-tek back in early '03 when they were still doing ok. He ran it for a few years and decided to put a thicker head gasket on it to lower compression for some boost. He kept the custom grind Nu-tek cam and custom CNC'd heads. I tore it down to put .040 head gaskets in to bring the compression back up to 11:1. It had also been line bored by Nu-tek but they ran a standard timing chain which was a little loose. Im going with an electric water pump therefore I can run a SBC double roller that is .005 shorter. I planned on getting a Cloyes hex-a-just timing set. So this brings us to the cam... need to know the specs to degree the cam or atleast find the specs out to see if I may want to buy a different cam.

The only way I can see you getting this done without knowing the specs is to
look at the offet bushing used in the old cam sprocket and see if it was
advanced/retarded (that is, assuming it was done right in the first place).

Wow I just found out that Nu-Tek Motorsports was about 20 minutes away from my house in Findlay, OH. Keyword WAS.
I think I found Nick Norris on Facebook. The Nick Norris I found is from Findlay, OH and lists being employed by Callies from June 2003-2009. I might be on to something...

Between the issues at Norris Racing and then the Nu-Tek deal, I was worried about him.

You should be able to easily figure out the lift. Just mic it. That "may" give you an idea of what it has for duration assuming he stays within the parameters of his other cams.

They did good work, but Nick relied on a non-technical partner for funding.
That relationship fell apart in 2001(?) and since the partner owned the warehouse (and a Miller Light distribution) Nick had to move.
You can probably find some of the old threads if you hit archive.org, he was was very active on CZ28 as "NickNRT".
My 95 was the test car for his 3.4L H/C/I package.

Nick is the guy with long hair on the right.
He started Nu-Tek from an old shed next to the railroad tracks shortly thereafter.
It sounds like he grew into a decent shop after that ran into financial problems.
I has left the online Fbody scene by then, so I can't really tell you what happened other than what I've read.

I found out through Nick that the cam specs are:
Duration @ .050": 231 int./ 234 exh.
Lift w/1.6 rockers: .564" int./ .576" exh.
Lobe separation: 112 w/4 degrees advance
Intake centerline: 108
'95-up long dowel
Ground in February of 2003
What do you guys think about this cam in a 11:1 N/A 383 LT1?
