Default redlined...

I was driving tonite and like a dumbass, i rode my 2nd gear to redline before shifting to 3rd. after i did that i felt a significant reduction in power. i was a few blocks away from home, so i took her home. when i got on my street i lost oil pressure so i shifted into neutral and oil pressured regulated. got infront of my house and lost oil pressure again and the car seemed like it was going to die so i turned it off. then i noticed the engine was slightly smoking. after a minute or so i tried turning the car on again to investigate noises/smells/behavior/ect..
i got it on, and had 0 oil pressure. it ran ok for 10-15 seconds with a rough idle before it died out
what could have happened?

Well it sounds like you might have spun a bearing.

Oil pickup fell off? I'm not sure what the symptoms of one falling off is but I've read you lose oil pressure. Maybe something to investigate.

Loosing all oil pressure is usually a good sign, but then again he never said how high he spon it. If his definition of redline is 5800 then that's unlikely.

Have you drained the oil to see what's in it?
You might get away with dropping the pan and finding a simple (less expensive) answer.

Well, the wizard has spoken. The same one who said you shouldn't run a baby solid roller with patriot duals.

Oil pickup fell off on my last motor(1997 lt1). I was doing the exact same thing as OP. Redlined it in second, near my house as well. It started running rough(low oil pressure) and died on the way back to my house(coasted it into the driveway). Tried starting it after that and it just quickly died every time with no oil pressure, so I quit trying. Took the oil pan off and found the pickup and a **** ton of metal at the bottom. Needless to say, that damn pickup cost me a motor(cam ruined, pushrod bent, and metal all over the place).
