I realize that i will need block off plates. What is the best way about intsalling them? From what i can tell, it is an almost blind area to work with

its just a couple of bolts that you can easily reach to the back and bolt the plate and gasket on.

for some reason I am thinking they are 12 point bolts?! anyone else input....

they are studs and a wrench or deep sockets are needed.

6point.
Reaching it in the car will probably cause some blood loss, but it's doable.
Depending on how long it's been on there, it could be tough to break free.

Im not saying do this but the last LT1 car I bought had the EGR deleted and the EGR line was squeezed shut with pliers and some sort of JB weld was put on the end of it. It didnt look good but it worked so I left it like that.

Dont crimp any pipes first of all.

Do it right the first way and youll only need to do it once.

You pretty much have to lay on top of your engine while feeling blindly behind the intake manifold. Find the nut (will be two total) hold your finger on it then slide the socket down your finger onto the nut a few turns and its off.

What I did just to get an idea of what I was feeling was to stick my cell phone behind there and snap a few pics, it worked. It is easy just take a few deep breaths and realize that this is much easier then your thinking.

The only bitch I didnt touch was the exhaust gas tube. Its the short slightly flexible tube going from the back of the intake to the left side (standing in front of motor) exhaust manifold. Dont remove this until your ready to remove that manifold!!!

I had to pull out my EGR this afternoon on my '97Z. What worked for the right side nut was laying across the engine as others have suggested, but see if you can get a mirror in there and a light to help you see. I had a palm sized mirror that some skank left here and my mini-mag and it helped me to see exactly what I was doing. For the left side nut (my left) I was able to just reach over the fender. Ultimately, as long as you know what a 6 point nut feels like you should be fine. Oh and the ratcheting 13mm box wrench I had helped tremendously.

Although even with a light, mirror and a 13mm ratcheting box wrench I kept torquing one of the nuts the wrong way, lol...

You don't have the "all too common dreaded LT1 intake manifold oil leak" do you?

Because if you do, you can use that as an excuse to unbolt your intake manifold, delete the EGR, and reseal/reinstall the manifold.

That's how I deleted my EGR

The block off plate isn't bad to install if you good with a wrench. I have been blessed with the ability to wrench on stuff I cannot see. Sometimes I even close my eyes when working on stuff so my wrench foo can come out.

I just kneeled in the engine bay and felt around for the bolts. I don't remember it taking long at all. Yeah you have to work blind but its not really that bad.
