I didnt think the 427 was of the FE family.
I thought the 332, 352, 360, 390 and 428 were the only ones. I always thought the 427 was kind of an odd engine with no family. I know the 460 and 429 are related and the 351 windsor and 302 are. I know the Cleveland was also an odd engine with no family but I think it has similarities to both the 429 and 302.

The 427 is an FE, just like the 332, 352, and the rest. 427 was Ford's big gun for a lot of years, won everything from NASCAR to Le Mans, and then some.

429, 460 is the 385 series, nothing to do with the Windsor or Cleveland. IMHO, they're the hands down winner in the cheap HP race. My friend and I had two race cars, his was a 67 Mustang mine was a 71 Maverick. We made a deal to see who could get more HP out of a 460 without spending over $1,000. He won, ran 11.16 to my 11.76. The $1,000 was for everything including buying the engine. Not a lot to work with. My engine cost $300 and included the transmission and rear axle. And a complete T-Bird. I used everything right down the the wire loom.
