Default XR270HR in the LT1, anyone usimg one?

Comp cams says its not for use in the LT1, but some people tell me its only because of the dowl pin needing to be longer. I measured my stock 96 LT1 cam pin and they are the same length. Is there any other reason not to use this cam? Its 218/224 .495 .503. @ .50 110* LSA.

That camshaft does nothing to allow for the extra increase in airflow the LT1 heads allow over the basic SBC heads the camshaft was around for. For the same duration and overlap, an hydraulic Roller cam with MORE lift will only utilize the LT1 to its better power potential. Not to mention with the larger sized ports on the LT1 and the lower RPM design of this camshaft you will inevitably have too much turbulance (spelling??) inside of the port and your torque down low will suffer. Get a cam that best suits your port flow and volume to maximize horsepower AND torque.

with 1.6 rockers it moves the lift larger than the LT4 hot cam to .528 .535 where as the LT4Hotcam is .525 .525... and as you can see.. this is an LT4 Hotcam with slightly larger lift.. but on 110 LSA instead of 112*..

so what you are saying then is the LT4 Hotcam is not suitable for for the LT1???

A buddy of mine is running that same cam in his 95 lt1 engine thats hes got in a 84 Z28. As long as the down pin is same size you can use the cam. Hes running a carb conversion kit and is very pleased with the power it makes and is alot of fun to drive. Ran a 13.2 with a terrable 60 foot and getting loose in 2nd and 3rd gear down the track. He just put a bigger carb on it and says a night and day car from the old shitty carb he had laying around to use.

So can it be done yes, but how its going to work with a lt1 intake that you'll have to report back to us on if you do end up using the cam.

ok good to know... im just still confused on this because this is essentially an LT4 hotcam with 110* LSA but slightly larger lift.. does it have anything to do with the ramps on the cam?

Its somewhat similar duration.... hotcam - 218/228 .525 112lsa vs 218/224 .503 110lsa. The tighter lsa will make for a better tq curve and the lift is hurting you but you could run 1.7s to bump that up if you choose to.

was going to use 1.6's.. and take it to .528 .535

would i need to use a double spring or would LS6 springs work?

Is the cam stepped nosed? Will the opti "stem" fit into the hole in the front?

If this cam has XE lobes then it's a far better choice than the lazier Hotcam lobes. It will have less overlap as well. I plan on running something similar in my beater LT1. You can get single springs that will handle the lift, I was going to use Isky 235D springs which are good to .550 lift.

With identicle duration the XFI466 has a lot more lift. Even on stock 1.5s it calculates to about 534/529. So on 1.6s that cam should be similar to a 466 on 1.5s with the exception that you'll be on a 110 instead of a 113.
