Default LT1 out the top

So I have my intake manifold off and the valve covers, I was wondering, when I take the engine out the top where is it best to attach the cherry picker to? Intake mani bolts or just take the heads off and chain it right to the block.

I hooked one set of chains to the water pump bolts and one set the heads where the intake bolts up. It will be easy to pull the block and get to the trans bolts if the heads are off.

I put a motor in from the top today.. It was an LS motor but same difference...

I used the front Bolt on the passenger side head and the rear bolt on the driver side head worked out great... I had the motor in within 45mins....

You don't have to take the intake off.

Happy Hooker FTW!

LT1/LS1/TPI, it's the same tool. If you want to come out the top, this is the way to do it.

My only issue coming out the top is I don't think my picker is long enough, I always end up taking my front bumper off.

If you look at my pic you will see there is an extra hole. Measured the distance between the stock one's on the lift (1000 split between them) and then halfed it. Then messured that distance from the last hole and drilled a new one. So I'm down to about 500lbs lifting cap. but it's a long block with intake at that point but I only use it like that on flat ground since I did not extend the wheels out. Still has me on edge but there is plenty of steel still left in the main boom before it gets to the end and it seems to do it no problem. It leaves me with about 1 to 2 inches before touching the front bumper.

With the Happy Hooker doesn't it make you nervous with all that weight hanging on the 4 fuel rail bolts?

Yeah, makes you think twice, but TPIS, who designed it, have been using it several years this way with no issue whatsoever... I called them the other day about this concern.

It's kinda a toss up really, using those 4 small bolts or just two on the heads.. Both pretty scary if you ask me, but they both get the job done nicely.

As long as the bolts are tight then whats the concern with the fuel rail area, it uses 8 bolts to secure it into place

I have never had a creak, crack or any noise from that thing while lifting. I have lifted motors with this happy hooker 15 times and never had a problem. No wearing of the threads in the intake or anything. I was worried about using it the first time but since then not so much. I have never seen a thread about someone loosing an engine because of it.
