I don't know if people still run on them or not, it was at least safer than the streets though. Cops saw it that way too, they rarely showed up and when they did they would just tell us to go home, things may have or probably have changed since then.
Seems no matter where I live the track is at least two hours away. I never made it out to Bakersfield. I've been a good boy since moving to FL and just deal with the two hour drive to the track and typically only getting 5 or 6 runs in. Maybe I just need to move closer to one so I can go more often.

I had a 5speed 08 GT, fairly stock...SLP Loudmouth, homemade intake and a programer. 13.4 was the best I could do with it. It was also pretty base, no sunroof 17" rims, no stick on vents/scoops/or louvers. Wasn't a bad car...but its the last Ford my wife will talk me into owning

You guys are funny. I have had a large array of mustangs and camaros of all gens. My wifes 07 mustang gt vert auto with 20's has a cold air intake, corsa exhaust and 91 octane tune and runs 13.6's all day on 275 nitto 555's. Have had a huge array of LT1 camaros with bunch of different mods. My last was a 96 Z28 with intake, slp Y pipe, magnaflow exhaust, 3.73 gears and a tune with an auto and it ran consistent 13.7's on 275 street tires. Comparing all your full bolt-on and H/C setups to a stock 3v isnt exactly the same thing. I love the LT1, thats why i'm installing one into my 68 camaro, but saying the 3v is slow is funny since its on par with all the LT1 cars i've had. Stay safe and watch out for cops....

So you've definitely got a good point. Only thing that cracks me up is that GM hadn't built the LT1 in 8 years, while the '05 GT was basically a brand new engine.
Ford pretty much advertised a 300hp Mustang as a force to be reckoned with.

Few years ago they had a celebrity race here in Tucson. Had a bunch of prepped Mustang convertibles, all automatic 4.6's. They were driven by local radio show hosts and the fire chief and so on. Had a drawing and had some of the local racers drive them too. None, not one got out of the 15's. The cars were supplied and prepped by Jim Click Ford and naturally all the drag racers were calling them turds.
BTW: Our local Corvette club has races here as weekend events. How any Corvette could run as slow as they do is beyond me. Drives me nuts.
Al in Tucson 3075 feet at the track and a tad hot too.

^^What in the fawk?
Either you're nuts, or you're confused with the 2011 GT. 12.6 is a crazy fast time even for the '11, but it can do it.

Pros run 13.5+, regular dudes run about 13.8-14.0
I will say my GF's Saleen 3V feels pretty fast.

I had an LT1 with at least bolton-ons pull up next to me on the highway a month ago. It was pretty damn ugly from 70-130 . I even gave him the hit and let him get out ~1.5 cars. I guess with the 2otl he figured I would be an easy kill. I would have felt feel bad but he kept egging me on so I finally gave in.

I took a 2010 model with longtubes/full exhaust and intake, might have been tuned.
From a dig he stood no chance, would have liked to get a roll to see how they really compare...
Only roll I've had with a Mustang was a 05-09 GT with exhaust and a highschooler at 20mph, for some silly reason I was already in 2nd (probably my old bald *** 275's)
He got out on me pretty good but I seemed to slow/stop his pull at top of 2nd, didn't go into 3rd.
I have a buddy with a boosted 2v GT, a very mild setup at 400rwhp, said he ran like mid 8's 1/8th mile with bolt-ons, he seems fairly knowledgeable so it probably wasn't just intake/exhaust.
I run 8.8X-9.0X with weak *** 2.2-2.3 60's since it does nothing but spin first and half of 2nd with 315 Sumitomo's and original clutch...sounds like his car would have been a good race though...
