I have the stainless bbk's that I had coated by a really good coating company; they are really nice, but without the coating I did not like them nearly as much. I also had the pace setter and tossed them in the trash.

Can you run a single cat style header or does it have to stay d/c? If you can find a set of 94-95 style SLP's they are a very good midlength header. Their d/c headers are a whole different design, not that great.

X2 on Gregrobs post. I'm running his old Arizona Speed and Marine mids. They had all the EGR hookups which my buddy and I cut down and welded closed, but the fit is really good. Had to clearance the steering shaft a little but other than that they go right in. Can't say enough good things about em.

Last I checked AS&Ms were only 49 state legal and didn't have a CARB certification. They are an excellent set of headers though I'll say that much.

If they don't have a CARB label, don't even look at them.

I have the Pacesetters and they work just fine.

Macs are a very good header with good plug access. Best of the ones listed IMHO.

Best will be SLP, AS&M or RK sport due to the larger primaries.

Macs have been a very popular choice for several years. The only thing I am not sure of is whether or not they have an Executive Order number from CARB? If they don't then they are illegal for street use and if you get it inspected/smogged and someone knows it will fail.

The only headers listed that are stainless & use 1 3/4 primaries are the ASM & the SLPs, fwiw. I've had the SLP mids for close to 10 years now, had them jet hot coated and they still look like new. Of the two I would agree ASMs are the best, they are closer to LTs than any other mid header.

But both MAC and AS&M are not legal in cali..the only one is the pace setter mid length. SLP are probably leagal but who sells them? last I heard they don't make them anymore..

Edelbrock shorties are 50 state legal I believe, but aren't any better than stock exhaust manifolds.

Anything other than shorties will technically be illegal. SLP dual cat shorties are what I have and they are nice for shorty headers and are 50 state legal. Mine have been on my car since 98 and on a 96 Z28 before that. They have held up very well over the years.

SLP mids are nice also as both my parent's have them on their Comp TA's. They also have held up very well over the years. But you loose the dual cat y-pipe with them.

Mids = FAIL Visual Inspection in CA. You always have shorty headers as an alternative. Or you can always get to know someone and run Long-tubes.

SLP doesnt make them anymore, not sure if anyone sells them new these days. I was saying to get them if he can pick up a pair used. They have all the emissions provisions, I just dont use any of them anymore, just capped them all. Not sure if they would be legal on a dual cat car in CA, he may have to stick with a d/c set. These are almost 10 years old and still look like new, they hold up really well I think

You CA guys sure have to deal with a lot of , lol

Yea, I was pretty sure no one made mids legal for CA, otherwise, I'd be running them.
