Doesnt matter where the valves were...they all closed as soon at it broke

Really??? Maybe you should re think that theory.. Just saying you snapped a cam and you could have some valves wide open when it happend, what makes you think the back half was still spinning??

Nothing makes me think it was still spinning! When the cam broke it was just after the 4th journal. The cam spun out of the bearing and fell a little and all the valves closed. I looked at it all today and no valves touched the pistons

Popped out the back freeze plug and pulled it through that way.

I am sending it off to Comp Cams Monday and they are gonna inspect it and let me know what they will do for me from there.

They said that if the part is not damaged in any way other than the obvious, they will either fully warranty the part, or give me an "EXTREMELY discounted price" on another...

Rich don't be. Look at my cam. It was getting over 500hp in a manul trans car and never broke. This was a casting flaw, plain and simple.

Me personally , when I see a cam broken it's the least of your worries, like the piece of rod that took out the cam etc. Consider yourself very lucky.

No **** lol. The internals were great though! I flipped it over, popped off the oil pan and spun it a few times just to check everything out, and everything turned easy, looked great and there were no bad sounds coming from it.

If I could afford a billet cam right now, believe me, I would be getting one! I dont have enough money to even buy a replacement cam so if Comp doesnt warranty the cam.....I am screwed...

The final "break" happened at idle. I am sure the main part of the damage was done somewhere else along the line and it just finally gave out at idle.

I had my stock wrist pin snap in half at around 1400rpms, the only thing that held the piston to the rod was about 1/3 of an inch of the pressed in pin. Still have the block.

So how did your valves and pushrods for cylinders 7 & 8 look?

Consider yourself lucky. When the cam broke, those valves all stopped where they were-some open some closed-and the pistons kept going.

"Lucky" eh? you had to do all this work to get the cam out but lucky that you didn't bust up some valves, pushrods, guides, etc. Worst case scenario you coulda damaged the head itself. This could have been much worse.

i dont see how the valves on cyl 7 and 8 didnt get bent.....

maybe the pistons hit them, and just pushed (rotated) the cam?
