GAWD half the peeps in that video clip are dead.
I'd agree with the experienced guys to bring extra Opti's. Or better yet, run a car with a non-Optispark engine.
And yes, keep this stuff off the internet. Competition racing may be more than just a ticket in some states.

BTW are there many(any) people here actually taking the OP seriously?
I remember reading an article a few years back about a dude who tried something like 3 times to break the unofficial cannon ball record. This guy had his car full of really high tech devices like multiple radar detectors, GPS, think he even had a night vision telescope or something mounted to his dash for the navigator to spot cops. If I recall correctly they did not even finish the first two attempts because of either failure or arrest. I found this link online and it looks/sounds familiar, although this article says it was his 3rd attempt and they actually (claim) to have beaten the record. http://www.wired.com/cars/coolwheels..._cannonballrun
Guess my point is anyone seriously thinking of doing this run (either alone or as part of an organized rally) is going to need a ton of financing (including bailout money), some really good liability coverage, tons of strategy and planning, mechanical skills and resources/parts to make repairs on the road, and how about being an experienced driver as well.
This OP here is thinking about throwing an extra set of fans on the car and taking off? (Don’t forget to fill your tank before you leave)
And did someone else suggest packing a spare opti just in case – just in case of what? LOL I didn’t realise an optispark swap was something you could pull off in a gas station parking lot. How many hours of downtime would that be? (one guy starts as the other team mate goes into a diner for a bite, then they switch, and in about an hour they back on the road )

Yeah a couple tickets.. Over 100mph and they can tow your car on the spot in MN, they will. Watched a couple buddies cars get pulled away, and then were all stuck having to walk home or find a ride.
Maybe cops just don't like teenagers...

Here in Indiana, for a 100+ MPH ticket you will get your car towed, have a shiny pair of bracelets AND a ride...straight to jail. That don't matter what age you are either.
A buddy of mine and a guy I know (*cough*wink*cough*) were playing around on their way home from work one day. It was about 30 mile trip and had been made successfully several times. Anyway, we got clocked at 114 and 119 MPH. When the trooper turned around, my buddy jammed on his brakes and took the next county road to the right and I (I mean the other car) kept it hammered and kept going forward until I didn't see flashing lights anymore then took an alternate route home. A couple hours later I got a phone call saying he needed help with bail money, lol. He said after they ripped him out of the car, they were asking him who was in the black Camaro running with him. All he would say was some other guy who likes to drive fast.
I helped what i could with his bail and I never got a ticket or a warrant. Thanks Nate!
