Default Cheap junkyard rear end solution?

Hey guys. Im getting a little tired of this useless 10 bolt in my car, but I am only on a highschool budget. A few people have told me to look into doing a junkyard 12 bolt or 9 inch conversion. Has anyone else done one in an LT1? How hard was it to mount and how expensive was it? Any help or advice is appreciated.

Usually if you get lucky you can find a mustang with an 8.8" that would have to be nodded but would work in an Fbody

Or scan the classifieds and see if you can find anyone selling a 12 bolt, 9" or S60 and if not as suggested search this site for the guys who've done the Ford 8.8 swap.

An Explorer 8.8 is a good cheap source for a strong rear because junkyards are full of them. 95 and up have disc brakes and they have 31 spline axles and it's easy to find 3.73 and 4.11 gears with posi units. I put one and in my Volvo 244 with LT power and it worked out great. If you can do a little fab work it can be a very cheap swap.

anyone have any info, or know of links about what it takes a 8.8 work? kinna seems like instead of buying/installing gears this would be just about as cheap and better in the long run
