To the OP:
Start with basic bolt ons.
Once you have those and you want to build a motor, decide on your goals. Drag only car? Road racing? Street/strip? Cruiser? Daily driver?
Also if the car is in running condition now, my advice would be to pick up a spare LT1 (or LSx) block and start building that up. That way when the time comes you will only be limited by taking the car apart and putting it back together and not waiting on machine work or whatever.

i cant really say he dont believe in nitrous but he considers it a poor mans horsepower. he thinks it should only be used as the ultimate last resort. be he has never needed it, his dad and him built a 1200 hp 350 four bolt main a year or so ago for the pinks all out thing on tv.

the only thing i really know about the camaro is the engine thats in it is the one from a corvette not the ones that came in the 93-97 ta firebirds and z28's and its supercharged/blowered how ever you want to say it. as for his other lt1 his firehawk is pretty muck stock, and hes looking at a 95 z28 for $500 but it has a blown motor and the tranny is shot with a broken driveshaft.
