Default At a crossroads....

Long story short, I have wanted to buy a Harley Softail for quite some time now. The thing is, the wife now says go for it......wait for it, wait for it......but we can't afford that AND the Z28. Problem is the Z isn't running, and I would have to part it out. (Really not a problem if I decide to go that way.)

My thing is, I have plenty of people around me to persuade me to get the bike, Bey very few to keep the Z.

I guess I could always buy a LT1 later....both can only be driven during summer...and the bike would get much better mileage.

I just don't know which way to go.

You live once. If you want the HD, do what you have to do to achieve it. If a matter of economics, determine what it will take to get your Z28 running again - I'm assuming it is likely a lot cheaper to do that than the cost of a new(er) HD soft tail.

Every time I drive it I have a huge smile on my face, and to me that's worth dealing with its impracticality.

Im with those guys. My motivation behind every car and bike ive owned is that i only live once, when im 80, i wanna say i owned one of them lol. Even if i just own it for a year or two, In my eyes its worth it. You can get sell the lt1, get the HD (im sure you have your reasons for an overpriced bike ) , then you can sell the HD. Also i have to ask, why on earth would you return to the LT1 fbody, by that time im sure an Ls1 car will be available for cheap.

I would say get a sport bike, but those things are like hot chicks with HIV that came from a family that had group beating sessions.

SS MPSTR...its not really a matter of economics to a point, but it kinda is. If that makes sense. Right now with my Z28 I am at the point of "well if I'm going to do 'x' then I might as well do 'xy' and if I do that then I'm going to have to do 'abc' and then ill need 'xa' to support it." The next thing you know, I have $14,000 in my Z28 and guess how much the bike I want costs? Lol. Not to mention, if I sold the parts that I have already gathered up, I could have a decent down payment. Who knows, maybe I'm just going through a phase...

Zfreie...I know where you're coming from on the smile factor. Thing is, my Z has only given me heartburn for the last year or so. And maybe that's why I am looking at the HD...

Speed demon ... LMFAO!

Trilkb ... I agree, they are overpriced but its still an American icon, and like you said I just want to be able to say I had one when I'm 80. Lol.

When I was younger (I'm 35 now) I had enough cash saved up to buy a brand new Yamaha R6 and I was about 2 weeks out from buying it. Then there was a guy in a riding crew, and we had some mutual friends at the time. Anyhow, he was practicing some stunts (front wheel wheelies / whatever they are called) without a helmet, and he hit the front brake a little too hard. He went over the handlebars and when his head hit the ground, the bike came over him and the seat smacked him in the back of the head and killed him.
I then took my money and bought my first LT1 Z28 and fell in love...

I always thought you needed to pull a trailer when riding a HD...so you had a place to keep the parts that fall of the thing.
