ls1 lid on ss hood
Ok before I explain this yes I have searched all of the threads and looked for hours on end researching . I have a 95 z28 with a aftermarket trufiber ss hood . now from what I've seen people have got them to fit under a stock hood with some fab work my question is the ss hood still needed to be cut up to clear the lid ? I looked at a tech article on lt1engine.com and he didn't show where he cut up his stock hood . Please don't bash me I seriously have been researching this for a while and never found a clear answer on the ss hood. I'm doing this mod primarily for looks and to clean up my engine bay. Also where does the opti vent hose go once the ls1 lid is installed ? Any help would be appreciated thAnks !

Well if you were to do the fab work nicely I would imagine it would cover up and cuts that are made ..... there has got to be a way to clear it. You have the entire base and lid . I am going to fabricate my own base that will be thinner than the original base

Ss mpstr please do ... I'm very interested . I am hoping someone has done this with a ss hood but so far I have only seen people with fowl hoods and RAM air but imo I do not like the look of a cowl hood on my car especially after I spent 600 on my hood

I dont think it looks right having it like that, plus its sitting so high up lol, the air is going back downwards. Its probably not a big deal, but it just looks funny to me not being flush with the rad support. But i guess you have a good spot to put the air filter, mine literally just gets sandwhiched between the Hood pushing down on the lid, and the a/c condenser under the air filter lol. But Atleast your car isnt cut up.

Thats as factory as it gets.

I'm not sure why everyone is so against cutting a little out of the front end and hood . I understand if you can make it fit without more power to you but half of the stuff we do to our cars isn't "factory" anyway . I always see people refer to the cutting as hacking up your car ..... if you are a crappy at fab work then yea don't do it but for a extra PROVEN 10 hp and a cleaner engine bay then in my opinion its worth it .

I want to do a lid as well, have stock hood now and SS hood for later.
However, I don't think its work cutting holes in my support for a filter, lol...plus I've yet to see one that looks "good" I hate how the cut base support looks.
I will probably do a over the radiator intake like the vettes have, a lot of junk is gone from up there now so I might as well use that, plus guys have seen lower IATs from that compared to K&N CAI...I would imagine it would be just as good as a lid if not better...

Yea I see what you mean but I've yet to see a vette setup done right . To each there own . I just don't have a problem cutting into the support I don't plan on reselling my z28 so it will always be mine and I have seen a few people do real nice jobs . Either way I am doing it because I'd like to get rid of the elbows . Has anyone seen how the Chevy 502 comes with the straight intake with the cone k&n filter ? Is that design possible on the lt1
