my friends C4 L98 likes to do the same thing.. sometimes won't even turn over. Sits it in the shade for awhile and once it cools off it starts back up again. Never figured out what it was tho.

well it cranks fine. my old 88 ta would kinda do what his is. it would get hot then not crank. turns out it was the starter. swapped it and was good to go.

Edit: People have also had the same symptoms when the ICM gets hot

A summer bummer: interior-located electronics that get up to 140* and stop working until they cool off... worth testing.

When it breaks or stops sending signals, the PCM defaults to -40° meaning it starts really well when cold and runs ridiculously rich and won't start when hot.
I replaced the coolant temp sensor in the water pump with a new acdelco one from Amazon and it instantly solved this problem! Starts like a dream now!

My 94 Corvette did the same thing after putting long tube headers in. The problem was the exhaust was heating up the starter too much that it couldn't function properly. Put some heat shielding around the starter and the problem went away.

Had a similar issue when I had a leaky injector.
It would restart immediately after turning off but if it sat for around 30 minutes to a few hours it would be hard to start. Sitting overnight it would start fine.
