Default Best Differential for my 7.625 10 bolt, Broke the Stocker.

About 6 weeks ago I put a set of 3.90's in my rear to help my 60's out at the track.. after about 10 runs spinning like crazy (nitto 555r's) I did a massive burnout in the pit and when I was coming out of it I hear a loud clanging noise, I said screw it and staged.... I launched pretty Hard and Hooked Decent and then when it hit 2nd it jumped a little and ate my spider gears and side gears... Dont really have a bunch of money atm so I cant get a good rear end so im looking for the best differential to stick in my stock 10 bolt.... im thinking of a couple but getting mixed thoughts, can anyone help me?
-Eaton Posi
-PowerTrax
-TruTrac

I would like to get one this Weekend s0ooo0oo if people could chime in id apreciate it, I know a bunch of people think putting money in a stock 10 bolt is a waste and ill find out, but I dont have 2grand atm to put get the rear I want..

424 rwhp , built a4 , 2800-3200 stall (going to upgrade to yank 4000) 3.90's

that sucks, blame the nittos, you wouldnt need gear if you had traction . I hate my 555r's.

if this is your daily driver then your best bet is to just find a stocker out of another fbody and save up for something else.

More importantly, what kinda times did you run?

Get a 3.42 rear end out of a 6 speed imo. Doing the R&P and differential and all that is a big waste of time and money.

I agree to infinity. The money it costs to build a weak *** 10 bolt could be thrown at a new S60 or the like and you know it wont break!

Pick up a take-off complete rear for ~$300 and don't race it anymore until you come up with the cash for a 9", 12-bolt, etc.

ok, a 1.63 on nittos, how the **** lol.

Ive tried no burnout to a burnout where i literally took a chunk out of the tire, either way, never better then a 1.9. Guess my track prep just sucks that much.

Get a 3.42 rear end out of a 6 speed
Again this was the best advice given. You can pick them up all day long for little or nothing. They will hold more power than your other did because the gear is thicker, but I wouldnt count on too much more, I have even seen them break under stock power.

As far as the new rear goes, you dont wanna cheap out on it. If you do you will spend more, trust me! I nuthug the S60. Its heavier but it is one beefy bastard and I trust it with all I can throw at it. There are some quality 12 bolt ssetups as well and then theres always the 9" option. If it is street driven at all I would stay away from the 9 due to harmoniucs it creates and travels through the TA. Maybe someone knows whether or not that is still a potential issue or not, bu it was when I was looking and since the S60 I HAVE NEVER LOOKED BACK......

I went with a new 12bolt and I wish I would have just got a 9" or a S60.

Track prep means life or death. Suspension and tire can only help so much. If the track isn't prepped right times will suffer regardless of setup.

As others have already stated just get a stocker and stay away from the track until you get a stronger rear. I have an S60 myself but another low buck option could be the Ford 8.8, contact Soxpuppet and if you know someone who can weld you can cut the brackets off your rear and weld them to the 8.8 then put that under your car and go racing.

I know a guy who runs high 10's with a stock 10 bolt with 3.23 gears. Idk how but it just won't die.

I'd get a takeoff rear and save for something else.

if you wanna save money, put a stocker back in, then save up for a custom ford 9" housing and axles, then find a used center section somewhere that works with what you've got, they arent hard to find, and for cheap. theres 1300 and you will never ever have to worry about it again.

The housing is warped. Don't bother.

Replace it with another 10 bolt until hou have cash for a rear.

I vote S60. MWC Fab 9 is nice but takes FOREVER to get it and crappy customer service.

what she said ^............its a complete waste of time and money to build that little dinky 7" stock rear end............you WILL break it again i give it my personal guarantee even if you build it the with the best off the shelf parts out there..........its just simply a poorly designed rear end in too heavy a car with too much power even in stock form........

I put the eaton posi in my car when the stock one died, one wheel peels are embarassing but now I'm kicking myself because my cam only motor is toast and I'm building a 383 with over 400 WHP....now I can't use sticky tires safely until I have money for a decent rear end I will say the eaton posi is much better than stock. At your hp level though it's just a band-aid. Just curious, did you have a rear-end girdle on it or all stock?

How the hell would you know if it's warped? Did you take it and put it on a CMM and measure it?

Just messing with you GregRob.

I see a lot of you voting S60. I should have done that, but all I had cash for at the time was a used Moser 12 bolt. But, it's holding up so far....it's just a whiny bastard.

OP - search the classifieds for a used 12 bolt, 9", or S60. They can be had for fairly cheap, if you look in the right places.
