Default How to install crank timing gear at home??

I bought a rebuilt shortblock, and there is no crank timing gear installed. I have a new Cloyes 3039 timing set and need to install the crank gear at home.
Whats the best way to go about doing this?
Do I install the gear over the key, or install the gear and tap in the key?

If your key is not already in, i would go ahead and put that in first. Then just tap the gear over the key.. It does not take a lot of force so don't go ape **** on it.

Yep, key first, then the sprocket. It will go on easier than you think.

Wipe some oil on the surfaces to make it go on easier.
